Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Roulette Rush (620)

It has been a while since the last time I bought a nail polish. I have been just stash-shopping my old polishes lately.
I love Revlon classic polishes and they are quite a big part of my sizable nail polish collection. However, I disliked the previous Colorstay polishes since they all stained my nails and smelled like burnt rubber. So naturally I was a bit skeptical to try the new Gel Envy from the same line, but it turned out to be nothing short of amazing.
I chose Roulette Rush which is a bright red with blue undertones.

The classic Revlon nail polishes usually last more than a week on my nails with no chipping in sight, so I was more interested to see the different finish that Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy supposedly offer.
I can't speak for other shades, but Roulette Rush certainly has a gel like consistency that is not too thick nor too thin. I must say I like the formula a lot. No funky smell this time, although it still smells like a nail polish.

Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy comes with a wider and stiffer brush.
I myself prefer a normal size brush for my somewhat narrow and curved nail beds, so this is not a plus point for me.
However, it works just fine unlike the other wide paddle shaped brushes I've tried before. (I believe OPI and I practically broke up since the Prowide brush.)

Technically speaking, Roulette Rush is not a creme polish since it contains very fine blue-colored micro shimmer.
However, it reads a red creme because the shimmer is so tiny that it flashes faintly blue only under certain lightings.

Roulette Rush is a beautiful red that complements my skin tone very well, but the best part is its excellent formula. It applies like a dream that I only need one coat. That's right. I'm wearing just a single coat!
I skipped a base coat since the new Gel Envy boasts a built-in base coat, but added my usual topcoat Seche Vite. It has been already 4 days and I find it looks fresh even without showing a sign of tip wear.
I do wish the color selection was more interesting, but I would highly recommend this line for a great formula that wears well. If you're in the North America, you can pretty much find it everywhere. It is quite affordable, too.

  1. The formula sounds pretty amazing - one coat!? I'm not sure any of the shades jump out at me, but I might have to check them out.

    1. Revlon nail polish formula is not exactly consistent but so is every brand depending on the colors. If you like a really opaque red, check out Revlon Red from the classic line as well. :)

  2. Four days and it still pretty much looks like when you first applied? Wow, that's pretty good! I LOVE the gel finish. Basically I love a glossy finish on all of my polishes! One of my first nail polishes was a pinky coral one with micro shimmer, it was sheer and needed 3 coats to be opaque but I loved it!

    1. Gel-creme finish is my favorite, ever!
Now I'm curious how the Gel Envy top coat would work with this polish, but the regular fast drying top coat seems to work just fine, too. :)

  3. I think Revlon here is light years behind... we don't get such awesome nail polishes, and I think what we have are your grandma's formula. HAHAHAHA!

    1. Really? Revlon constantly discontinues and brings out new things so I have hard time keeping up with them, too. I've only like the basic nail polish of theirs, so this was kind of refreshing. Hope you you can find Gel Envy with no markup there soon!:)

I'm pretty sure the gel effect would be enhanced even more if I apply two coats.
I'd recommend Essie for gel-creme reds, though. That's what they do best! :)

  5. I don't usually wear red nail polish, but this one is so pretty and elegant. And the gel formula is very tempting, since I have so much trouble getting polish to stay on my nails for more than two days. Also, I love the shape of your nails! That sounds so creepy now that I see it typed out...oh, well.

To be honest, nearly everything stays on me very well. I feel lucky about it yet I find it quite strange cause I do normal housework without gloves. Maybe it is the base coat. Do you normally use a base coat before? :)

I am wearing red polishes more often. There was a time I was afraid of them, though. LOL
Two coats would create more depths but I'm pretty happy with one coat for this one! :)

  8. I have a couple of these lying around but haven't tried them. Sounds like a great formula! But is it hard to take off? That's what scare me LOL. Love the red on you!

    1. I will report back, but I don't think this is anything like the traditional color gel. I hate those, actually. Since most nail polishes stay on my nails with no problem, I don't really see the point of having one color for 2 weeks. Then it is so much hassle to remove them and it is potentially damaging the nails. ;-/

I'm sure two coats will make it even prettier, but I'm quite happy with one coat. :)

  10. I broke up with drugstore polishes because they ALL seemed to chip on me, no matter what, but hey, that's really pretty! I like the fat, wide brushes if they taper down to a point, but the OPI ones also drive me nuts, because who has wide, SQUARE cuticles? NO ONE.

    1. If you see tutorials like "how to use OPI prowide brush" on the web, that is already a sign it is a disaster. LOL.
To think about it, I only like Revlon polishes from drugstore. L'Oreal got better ever since they acquired Essie, but I usually just stick with affordable salon brands like Essie.
Sally Hansen is nice, too. Have you tried them? :)

    2. Yep - every Sally Hansen polish I've tried chips in a day or two, no matter what basecoat I use! It's a shame, because they make a lot of pretty colors and always seem to be on trend.

    3. Oh, I see. That's too bad. I agree SH has great colors. I often spot latest dupes, too. Anyway, they are not exactly square bottles. ;p

  11. I love that you only used one coat! And that it does look a little like gel! And that it didn't chip! It sounds almost too good to be true! Also, am I the only one who likes wide brushes? LOL. I only like narrow brushes if they fan out nicely. I can make do with Essie. :) But maybe I have wide nails?! ;)

    1. I usually apply generous amount with a very light hand so sometimes I can get away with one coat. ;)
I can imagine wider brushes would work better for nail beds that are now curved to the sides like mine. Maybe more people have that type of nails since now we see more brands use wider brushes.
I love Essie brush, too. :)

  12. Oh what a coincidence, I just received the ColorStay Gel Envy Collection yesterday! It only has six colors here though, en Roulette Rush is not in it. Shame, because it looks really pretty. I'm wearing a blue and a purple from the collection now and so far so good. I loooove the super shiny finish and the texture really does feel gel-like.

    1. How exciting!
I was curious about other colors since application and wear vary depending on the colors and finish. I wasn't sure if I wanted to pick up more from the same line, though. Will look forward to your reviews, then. :)

  13. I initially thought the colours were quite basic but they're sort of spot-on. Like, you need a classic red? Here you go! Need a bright blue? Here! I've started to give out the samples I acquired but am keeping a few because they're generally easy to apply and look nice. I like this red a lot more compared to Chanel's 900 other reds, for example.

    1. That makes a lot of sense! And I agree with you. I never thought Chanel red polishes are better than Revlon (or even Essie) ones.
Have you tried Revlon Red from the classic line? It is another one coater. Very retro and super hot. ;)
