NARS Sheer Lipstick Roman Holiday

NARS Sheer Lipstick Roman Holiday is "the light pink" lipstick for me.
I regret that I ever wandered away from this gorgeous pink that instantly brightens up my complexion.

I don't suppose NARS wanted to house the Audacious lipsticks in the same plastic case (you know, the whole line being "audacious" and all), but I do wish they came in the same minimalistic case with lighter price tag.

NARS Sheer Lipstick Roman Holiday
NARS Roman Holiday is a blue-based light pink with semi glossy finish. There is no visible shimmer.
Formula wise, Roman Holiday has a little less slip but is more pigmented compared to Damage (reviewed).

This is actually my second tube. Years ago, I had one and loved it down to a nub. It was my no-brainer-everyday pink lipstick. I think I lost it while I was carrying it in my cosmetic pouch, too.
After a while, I have tried the most popular dupe of this, Revlon Strawberry Shortcake (reviewed). Since there was quite a bit of gap between my first Roman Holiday and Strawberry Shortcake and indeed these two are similar to each other (that is to normal folk's eyes anyway), I thought the Revlon was a good dupe.
But guess what, they are two completely different shades and formulas.

If you are as obsessed as I am about light pink lippies, you can instantly see how different they are.
Roman Holiday is more vivid and cooler shade that has a great livening effect on me. The shimmer in Strawberry Shortcake is almost invisible swatched but it shows up on the lips, so it does not exactly play favorable for my complexion. Both have moisturizing formulas, but in general NARS Sheer Lipsticks feel much lighter on lips and fade more evenly.

Roman Holiday is light enough yet does not wash me out. Gotta love that.

NARS Roman Holiday FOTD

NARS Roman Holiday is one of the very few lipsticks I have repurchased.
I am very happy that I have this back in my daily rotations and don't want to be without it ever again.
And I just realize it is such a remarkable and rare moment of fidelity in my makeup life.

  1. I don't think I've ever felt that way about makeup before. It must be true love, Lena :-)

But seriously, I love this pink color so much that I don't want to explore for better one any more. :o

    1. Yeah, NARS definitely knows how to market with color naming. We are all suckers. ;p
I remember the particular color of chubby stick. The name was a bit odd, but I thought it was very pretty! :)

  3. Oh God, that is a gorgeous shade of pink! It goes very nicely with Sex Fantasy! Strawberry Shortcake is nice but it's definitely no Roman Holiday...ahah

    1. I love pale pinks like these, but sadly I can't wear the ones that are too light any more. Sex Fantasy and Roman Holiday get extra brownie points for not washing me out!
And yes, I honestly don't understand how Strawberry Shortcake could be a dupe of RH. Not even close. ;)

  4. Ooooh, so pretty! I can't pull off baby pinks. Makes me just look sallow. I can totally see you giving off a bit of a Hepburn vibe here. :)

I used to be all about baby pinks, but now I have to be careful with them. Which is why I like Roman Holiday even more. You might like this one, too. There's almost an insolent quality to this color. Not all that baby like. ;p

The name definitely is a plus to this already pretty pink shade. I think it is must for any pink lover. :)

What's interesting about Roman Holiday is that it is definitely a very light pink yet it has so much life in it. You might like this one, too. ;)

  10. I love pink lipsticks as well, especially sweet pink like this! :) I have Roman Holiday Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and I adore the color. A bit cooler-toned than the lipstick but still a pretty light and nice pink. Your post tempted me to get the matching lipstick, though!

    1. I have yet to experience NARS Velvet Matte pencils! Roman Holiday in a matte formula would be so chic and interesting. Using both layered doesn't sound so bad, now you're tempting me. ;)

Beautifully said. I love these moments of fidelity--they're even better than the thrill of the new. And there's just something about NARS sheer lipsticks, isn't there? I've returned to Dolce Vita several times over the last two years, always feeling mildly surprised that I'm capable of being faithful to a lipstick!

    1. Thanks! I'm also surprised that Roman Holiday pulled me again after all these years.
It is very interesting many of NARS colors are not easy to dupe. I have yet to see any real dupe for Roman Holiday, Dolce Vita, or even Orgasm. ;)

  12. I actually have a tube of this for some reason. I don't remember how I got it, but I do remember that it isn't flattering on me. I think it's way too light for my complexion (made me look like I was dying). But it looks really pretty on you! Makes me want to try it again, just to see, but I already know! T__T (Roman Holiday is one of my favorite movies ever though!)

    1. If Roman Holiday doesn't work on you, that means you can pull so many warm pinks and peachy corals off beautifully, then!
But do give it another try. I find this is one of the better light pinks. I often wear cool pink lippies but lighter ones do wash me out. ;-/

  13. I can definitely see the difference, although both are sheerist, the NARS is brighter and has more of a baby pink punch whereas I also have shortcake and find it more greyish almost? Love how it looks on you, I personally shy far away from baby pinks, I don't like how they look on me and they make my teeth look more yellow! Ek!

    1. Strawberry Shortcake is not bad at all but compared to Roman Holiday, it does look a little lifeless. I used to wear baby pink lippies like nobody's business but now I have to be careful with them. I'm happy that I've found Roman Holiday again! :)

I cannot wear cold pinks, neither on lips nor on cheeks. :(
    My complexion is too warm.
Your skin is so white, you can wear any color !
