NARS Afterglow Tempting Eyeshadow Palette

Nars used to be quite a special makeup brand for me then I slowly fell out of love over the years. Then, I started paying attention again last year when they brought out the "With Love" collection. This year, Nars offers a similar format to the Valentine's Day collection but this 9-pan palette is also included. For some reason, it popped up last year on the Nars website and I was immediately drawn to the color story.

NARS Light Reflecting "With Love" Collection

I used to be a big fan of NARS makeup. I still remember the days when I would collect their cult-favorite blushes and those interesting eyeshadow duos with such excitement. Ever since Shiseido acquired the brand, the color stories have been less inspiring with lots of repeats although it seems to maintain the product quality. I became disinterested in the brand and have not bought from them for at least a couple years now. These recent releases, however, did spark my interest and I ended up purchasing the new eyeshadow sticks and the Light Reflecting (With Love) collection. I am happy to report they are quite awesome and even refreshing that they effectively put NARS back on my radar.

NARS Hardwired Eyeshadow Madrid

Madrid is the most interesting color from NARS Hardwired Eyeshadow collection ($22, NARS) in my opinion. And, it's one of my favorite eyeshadow singles! I prefer a simple eye look when I wear brighter lips. This way, you can easily incorporate bright lip colors into the daily look without being too much. When I wear red, I usually go for Urban Decay Diamond Dog or MAC Satin Taupe. NARS Madrid works great with hot pink and berries.

NARS Duo Eyeshadow Hammamet

Ah, I almost forgot about this one. NARS pretty much lost me with Audacious and Double Intensity lines, but their original blushes and eyeshadow duos still have a special place in my heart. Personally, I think the sheer clarity of the colors is NARS' jam and they should never lose it! I have the old version but apparently, Hammamet has survived the recent reformulations and can be easily found if you want one for yourself.

NARS 413 BLKR Eyeshadow Duo

I had wanted this dusky purple smokey duo for the longest time. I even swatched it a couple times but for some reason, the actual swatches always looked a little bit less attractive than what I'd imagined. Like other BLKR stuff, it was exclusive at NARS website and the Bleeker street store. Surprisingly though, NARS BLKR eyeshadow duo didn't make the cut for NARS' recent eyeshadow renewal and the BLKR blush and the lip pencil also seem to be discontinued.

NARS Indes Galantes

Indes Galantes is another stunning duo from the NARS Sarah Moon collection (late 2016). I love the other duo in the collection, Quai des Brumes so much and use it frequently (reviewed here). I knew that Indes Galantes wouldn't be as easy to pull off but had to get it because the color combination looked so interesting.

NARS Quai Des Brumes

I feel bad blogging about a limited edition that now you cannot even find anymore (I checked). I myself almost missed this beautiful duo from the Sarah Moon collection but it was love at first sight. I've been dabbling in warm-toned eyeshadows lately, but I am well aware that cool dusty colors still look better on me and this duo is one of them. NARS Quai Des Brumes is everything - purple, gray, taupe, blue, matte, and shimmer all together in a simple harmonious way.

NARS Heat Wave

NARS Semi Matte Lipstick Heat Wave

The name suits this famous lipstick from NARS. It is a blazing red with bright orangey undertones. I don't feel entirely comfortable wearing either warm-toned shades nor mattes, and this is why I hesitated quite a bit before I finally bought one for myself. I still find Heat Wave challenging and often wonder what would be the best makeup pairing with it. I do love the color so I brave myself and reach for it once in a while, though.

NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow Kari

I bought a few from NARS Spring 2016 collection in the summer and started using them right away without photographing first. (I know. It sounds wrong on multiple levels.)

Being a cool-toned pinkish mauve, Kari seemed an easy choice, and I expected it to fill the void where MAC Soba couldn't for me. Kari performs exactly how it is supposed to do and is reached for quite often. I just wish I like the formulation a bit better.
