Chanel Rouge Coco Flash (Feel, Play, Mood)

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash review swatches

You guys know that I love Chanel makeup but I have to say I have mixed feelings towards the Rouge Coco Flash Lipsticks. Undoubtedly, this range offers so many beautiful colors that feel moisturizing on the lips. I am not trying to say these lipsticks are bad but for $40 a pop, I think they could be better. I still own 3 of them despite my reservation. Today, I like to show you some swatches and talk about possibly better alternatives.

I actually love the colors I picked up. You will see later in the comparison swatches that I own quite a few similar colors but these Chanel colors look most flattering on the lips. It is the formula that I have issues with. Chanel Rouge Coco Flash is very rich in oil, which makes the base almost too thin and slippery. Glossy and emollient is nice but I personally prefer a lipstick color that settles down a bit after application. It is a bit annoying that Rouge Coco Flash kind of keeps moving around.

Enough with complaints, let's look at the colors because they are very pretty!

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash Feel (138) swatch
Feel (138) is a light cool pink with a slightly milky undertone. It is one of the few pink shades that's light enough yet doesn't wash me out. It is my go-to shade to pair with strong smokey eyes.

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash Play(122) swatch
Play (122) is such a gorgeous berry pink with a clear undertone. To me, there seem to be equal parts of berry, pink, and red in the shade. It is not too serious and indeed playful but sophisticated at the same time. My favorite!

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash Mood (128) swatch
Mood (128) is completely unique in my collection - a true grape color! I adore it but find it fussy. Because the color is quite deep but the base is thin, even application is a challenge. You can see Mood in action in this post.

Now, here are some comparison swatches:

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash Feel (138) swatch
Turns out that Feel is the lightest cool pink lipstick that I own at this moment. You can see Rouge Coco Flash is glossier compared to Rouge Coco Shine. Formula-wise, Revlon Glass Shine Lipstick ($6.97, Amazon) is a wonderful alternative to Chanel Rouge Coco Flash not to mention it is very affordable (see my swatches here).

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash Play (122) swatch
Revlon Glass Shine Lipstick Love is on is quite similar to Chanel Rouge Coco Flash Play.
I also highly recommend Suqqu Extra Glow Lipstick (it is supposedly discontinued but still available at Harrods!) because the formula is much better yet it is as glossy and moisturizing as Chanel Rouge Coco Flash.

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash Mood (128) swatch
No dupe here. Again, Mood is a very unique shade. It's just hard to find a muted grape lip color like this.

There you have it. Thanks to the beautiful color range and the slick packaging, Chanel Rouge Coco Flash still ranks high in my book and I do reach for them often but the formula comes a little short to become my favorites.

Thanks for being here. Have you tried Chanel Rouge Coco Flash? How do you like them?
