Current Sunscreen Rotation

Skin Aqua sunscreen reviews

A wise friend of mine has been telling me that I should wear sunscreen even when I stay indoors because UVA can still penetrate through windows and we're most likely exposed to blue light which can affect our sleep and damage skin. I have to confess that I only started wearing sunscreen "daily" during this self-isolation period although I almost always wear sunscreens when I go out. These are currently in my rotation and some of them are my favorites that have been repurchased over time.

Kanebo Allie sunscreen review

1. Skin Aqua UV super moisture Gel SPF 50+ PA++++ ($18.19 Amazon)
This has been my favorite choice for my neck for a couple years already. I prefer to wear non-waterproof sunscreen on my neck but still want something with high protection. It is very hydrating and gentle so it's perfect for my neck. Easy to remove by just using good micellar water

2. Skin Aqua Tone Up UV Milk SPF 50+ PA++++ ($13.69 Amazon)
I bought this recently because I have used the Essence version and loved it. I happened to love the pale violet tint and its brightening effect from this line. Both milk and essence versions double beautifully as makeup bases.

3. Kanebo Allie Extra UV Perfect SPF50+ PA++++ ($27.99 eBay)
Also a favorite and this is my third bottle. Among waterproof sunscreens that have both physical and chemical blockers and leave a slight white cast, I think this one is the best. I even prefer Kanebo Allie over any of the Shiseido Anessa sunscreens. It applies very thin and evenly that you can easily go for second coat. It works as a long-lasting makeup base as well and my makeup never melts in summer if I wear this. It can be drying during winter so I'm looking into trying the Gel version later on.

  1. I am slacking off when I head out (i do have some granny style hat though)This summer i will be counting on UV umbrella and longer sleeves because they block heat as well...but I think I will get a bottle of allie for my arm during summer.

    1. I should remember utilizing gears rather than just relying on sunscreens. Maybe facemasks will take care of half the problem.... I love Allie and can't wait to explore different types in the range. I remember you saying you sometimes react to these ingredients but if you're okay with them, Allie is perfect to wear alone without foundation. Just some powder and it looks quite put together and stays all day. :)

  2. These are all new to me. I've always worn sunscreen every day even when I don't go out because our apartment has an eastern exposure that gets plenty of sunlight during the day. My daily go to now is the Coola Suncare 360° Sun Silk Drops Organic SPF 30 which offer protection from sunlight, blue light, infrared, and pollution. I haven't been on my computer and phone as much lately but I have real concerns about damage from digital overexposure. It's virtually weightless and absorbs easily and big plus - no questionable ingredients. When I go out I'll wear my PTR moisturizer with pollution and blue light protection and Krave Beauty the Beet Shield SPF 50. Pollution is a real outdoor concern for me since we're in NYC. I wear a hat whenever I go out now even to my terrace. I guess I must be doing something right because my husband just told me last week that my face looked lighter and my freckles seem to be disappearing. I think I told you that our trip to Hawaii aggravated them so I've been concentrating on banishing them again. The Allies of Skin retinol sleeping mask I'm using 3 times a week might be playing a big role in this as well ;p

Thanks for your kind words of encouragement Lena. Oddly enough I feel like living through this situation is making me stronger as a person but I am looking forward to being pain free for good again. Stay well and safe my friend <3

    1. I wish I was half as good as you, Rowena! I think your sun protection routines are impeccable. No wonder your skin shows improvements. I guess now is the time to amp up my regimen and do something about my skin but I have to admit I haven't been able to do that. At least, I started wearing sunscreens indoors thanks to your advice! :p I still blindedly go for Japanese sunscreen options because they never fail me but I want to explore the newer more innovative options out there. Your blog is a great resource for me.

I hope you feel better soon! And wish you a great weekend. :)

  3. Even though I'm in the Southern Hemisphere coming into winter now and the sun is nowhere near as intense as during the summers here, I do wear sunscreen nearly every day because of being pregnant at the moment and I'm scared of getting sun spots in weird places and pregnancy mask! Otherwise I do get spots easily and I have to admit in summer I wear sunscreen every day just in case! Thank you for your reviews, my holy grail sunscreen is not available here were I live (and as the world going I dont see myself in Spain anytime soon to buy it again) and so I'm on the lookout on educating myself of what I can buy instead when I run out... xx

    1. You're doing the right thing! I actually put this post together because I wanted to encourage myself to keep wearing sunscreens every day. These are more suitable to be worn under makeup because the waterproof formulation works as a long lasting makeup base, but I'm looking into some non-wp formulations that are gentler on the skin. I remember that you've mentioned about your fave sunscreens and I'd love to try that if possible!

  4. Oh thanks for the recommendations! I'm pretty happy with Krave Beet the Sun which luckily I can get easily here. i will definitely look into Skin Aqua too. I can't believe I also only started wearing sunscreen indoors too. My oldest one has sensitive skin and I noticed her patchiness and tan recently and thought "Duh, why didn't I keep applying sunscreen?"

    1. I am sure you can buy Skin Aqua and other Japanese sunscreens at much better prices. I've used many different ones from Skin Aqua and find most of them very gentle on skin. It must be hard making sure the little ones wear sunscreens at all times!
