Suqqu Designing Eyes 01 Yuushakuyaku

Suqqu Yuushakuyaku review swatches

I picked up my second Suqqu eyeshadow palette about a year after my first one (reviewed). I was thoroughly impressed in my first experience but wasn't going to make a habit out of it because getting Suqqu stuff is just not an easy task. I see Yuushakuyaku is a safe and practical choice. It's something I can recommend in a heartbeat if someone is looking for a quality everyday neutral eyeshadow palette but not necessarily adventurous with colors.

I purchased mine from Selfridges. Despite the international shipping charges, it's still the most sensible choice if you're in the U.S. If you plan to buy more than one item, it becomes much more affordable than trying to score one off eBay. Harrods offers better base prices but you'd end up paying slightly more because of the tax (I am not sure why this is different for these two department stores because they are both based in the UK).

The color composition is very similar to the famous Tom Ford "Nude Dip" quad. The overall texture is quite different as Yuushakuyaku offers calmer and refined shimmer where Nude Dip is more on the metallic side. Many people seem to prefer the Suqqu for this very reason. I still think they are different enough that warrants owning both but that's just me. If you aren't very keen on strong shimmer and want a more refined look, definitely go for Yuushakuyaku. The silky texture and elegant finish are at its best.

Here are a few close-up photos on the eye makeup.

I have tried a more dramatic look packing on darker shades but it doesn't look right for some reason. Squirrel brushes with a lighter hand seem to work best. I guess the key is not to over blend.

Here is an overall look - I usually wear a hot pink or red lipstick with Yuushakuyaku but here I am wearing a pink gloss. (I can't remember what other makeups I incorporated in this look. This can happen if you've been lazy with blogging.)

I reach out for this quad at least twice a week (that's a lot) and love the classy neutral look that I can so easily achieve from it, but I must say I find Yuushakuyaku a little too mundane. A good kind of mundane, I guess.

Have you tried Suqqu eyeshadows after the renewal? What do you think of them?

    1. I don't own enough to know for sure but the new ones are like Lunasol but better by 35%(?). ;) I am so late in this reviewing game. The fall collection is already out and I haven't gotten to the summer stuff. LOL. I will do my best! I do like Hikaribore a lot and it is still avail at Sefridges. I'm going to make another purchase soon (because I like their lipsticks and blushes so much) and will ask you if you want to piggyback. :D

  2. yes! Please let me know when you do. I was about to spend $68 on ebay for that...(not bad for international price though). Anyway, I got a lunasol fall 2019 palette and people said it's like suqqu but better lol.

    1. Absolutely. There's always something buy from Suqqu if not Hikaribore. The new singles look interesting but quads are still a better deal, right? But, now I want to look at the Lunasol 2019. Why are we doing this to each other? ;D

  3. Looks lovely on you Lena! The shades in this palette are definitely very nice and wearable. The type I would definitely wear if my lazy bones could be bothered to put on eye shadow LOL ;p Hope you've been well. <3

    1. Thank you, Rowena! I think you'd love Yuukshakuyaku. The lighter shades wear beautiful as singles and the darker ones work like soft liners.

    1. It's one of those ghost vowel that does not exist in English. Korean has something like that, I think. I'd love to get together soon and say it for you although I don't speak Japanese. LOL

  6. This is one of my favorite SUQQU quads, I've grown a habit to pick up a couple of them every year.. Yuushakuyaku is one of my favorites, so easy, simple, fool proof palette. I do also like SUQQU's more adventurous color combos, especially ones with pink or blue. Lovely post!

    1. Thanks, Laura! Actually, your review on Yuushakuyaku was very helpful. There are so many similar neutral quads out there but Yuushakuyaku is probably one of the best. Like you, I like how Suqqu does pinks and blues. I bought Hikaribore for the amazing pink shades! :D

  7. Ooh you look lovely as always in these shades! It's soft and romantic, but with a bit of flair! Now if only I could do as good a job with my eyeshadow lol

    1. Aww, thanks so much! My skill is not all that. One thing for sure is that Yuushakuyaku is really really easy to blend. You can even use the enclosed tiny brushes and tips and get nice results. :)

  8. I've never seen any Suqqu products ever anywhere I go. I'd love to try them, as when I see them online the colours and finishes look great. I love how the shadow glows on you. xx

    1. Suqqu is elusive like that, I'm afraid. Even when you're ready to pay for markeups and purchase sight unseen, new collections often sell out in a few days. I don't think they make enough to beging with. Luckily, Yuushakuyaku is a tried and true classic and always available. ;)
