Look Book | Hint of Green

I did this look a while ago but wasn't sure about doing a Look Book post with it. For one thing, many products I used to create the look are either discontinued or hard to find. Also, I wasn't very happy with the outcome - it's a classic case study of "personal color analysis". Some colors - in this case, green and muted rose - just require more efforts of me who usually is analyzed as a "winter bright" or "clear". It is frustrating, but I will always be open-minded towards new things and different colors/textures.

Here, I challenged myself to wear green on the eyes and muted rose on the lips. I am also wearing color contacts that are very subtly tinted with green (LensMe Mochi - the green and the blue models are discontinued but the grey and the brown are still my favorites).

  • I admit that Lancome Erika F was a very safe choice for a green. Thanks to the strong grey undertones and beautiful shimmer, I can wear this quite easily and layering it on top of L'Oreal Voluminous Smoldering Liner Gray makes it even easier.
  • I wanted a warmer luminous complexion (I was going for a "summer rose" kind of look at the time, I think) so I applied a generous amount of Becca Backlighting Priming Filter. This is a great primer that makes any foundation blend in seamlessly and gives that "lit-from-within" glow like no others. If you have light warm skin tones, I'd highly recommend this. Unfortunately for me though, the shade is darker than my own complexion and I can only use it for certain desired effects.
  • NARS Oasis blush is something I reach for whenever I want to look "subtly bronzed" (the effect is better showcased here).
  • A'pieu Waterlight Tint Bitter Rose is a muted medium rose that is widely popular in Korea. It's usually described as a "dried rose lip color" and looks fantastic on many people. Not so much on me (I've tried quite a few), but I can at least wear this one thanks to the slightly shiny finish.

Another photo that shows the eye makeup a bit better

(Oh, do you see I am wearing some green beads earrings? You can't say I didn't try.)

Thanks for looking. I did "Hint of Blue" look right after this one and hopefully, I will show that to you soon. The case study continues...

Hope you have a beautiful week!

  1. Oh the colour analysis! I love it! I was first introduced to it by a friend who works in Hermés. He said I'm an "autumn". I was intrigued and so I looked it up and I think I'm a borderline (according to the season and how tanned I am) between an autumn and winter, though I can't remember if deep warm or what! What I do know is that it automatically made me understand why some of my clothes look horrendous against my colouring and other looks great. And that made buying clothes and make up so much easier IN GENERAL!
On my laptop Lancome Erika looks like a stunning grey on you! And this whole look is gorgeous and mysterious. xx

    1. I think we should wear whatever we feel like but also knowing what's best & easiest for ourselves is very important. Different textures and finishes also make these "difficult" colors more wearable, imho. I hear Warm Autumn people have most color choices when it comes to makeup, though. Feeling jeallous!

Choosing Erika was a total chicken move, I have to say. And, the gray base definitely makes the end result more gray than green. ;p

  2. Green is a color that I don't gravitate towards for some reason. Maybe because certain bright shades can be quite garish. Even though you muted down the eye shadow and the green is more subtle, the result is lovely. Making an effort is always a step in the right direction and those earrings definitely count :)

    1. Thanks, Rowena! I think I understand what you mean. For example, I hardly find kelly green attractive on anyone and it usually makes me cringe a little (happens a lot around St. Patrick's day ;p). Toned-down green with shimmer could look very wearable especially when paired with pale pink or purple so I'd try something like that next time. :)

  3. Pretty! I usually associate green with holiday makeup (emerald green, or something similar). When I was looking, I almost wished that you had used an emerald and darkened the lip, but then I realized I really appreciate that this isn't a holiday look. It's really quite wearable any time!

    1. Thanks, Aki! Your comment made me realize another reason why this look was rather challenging for me. I usually go for and seem to look better with high-contrasting colors, which is common in winter bright/clear folks. Emerald green is something I haven't dared, yet. Teal is my choice for a brighter green, but I want to try some version of emerald green, too! :-)

  4. I know it's not your usual color palette, but this shade of khaki/metallic green is a gorgeous neutral. It works really well for a spring look. I love a good dusty rose! My, will I need to put this lipstick on my list? We may go to Seoul and Jeju and I need so many makeup/skincare suggestions!

    1. I wish I knew better about Korean skincare and makeup stuff! I still prefer couture/Japanese things over Korean but I am slowly discovering good stuff. I really like Korean-made lip tints, though! This tint from A'pieu is well-known as a dupe of YSL Carmin Session. Vitabrid shampoo and Millimage lip tints are two things I like to recommend on top of my head. Many people seem to love 3CE makeup and I ordered a few recently - I will let you know how I like them. :D
