Layering Revlon Lip Butter & L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm

I love Revlon Lip Butters and L'Oreal Colour Riche Balms equally and I personally think they deserve all the hypes indeed.
However, they are not perfect and both leave a little bit something to be desired.

For L'Oreal Balms, I would like a bit more color and lasting power although I adore how moisturizing they feel on my lips with glossy finish and added sun protection.
For Revlon Lip Butters, I love how they go on as if they are hugging my lips, but I want them to be more moisturizing and consistent in coverage.  The biggest problem I have with Lip Butters is that they seem to vary in coverage and moisture level depends on colors.
I know some of you are praising Lip Butters for their good pigmentation, but I kinda wish the darker colors went sheerer cause they look a bit much on my pigmented lips.

So I thought...why not layering them?  :)

I layered similar toned L'Oreal Balms over the darkest colors of my Revlon Lip Butters, and I am very happy with the results!

L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Heavenly Berry
+ Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie

Colour Riche Balm in Heavenly Berry
very pretty but super sheer!

ColorBurst Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie
also gorgeous but the color is too intense for me to pull easily.
This particular color is just like a regular lipstick to me. ; /

the layered happy medium :)

L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Rose Elixir
+ Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Cherry Tart

Colour Rich Balm in Rose Elixir
gorgeous pale pink but no staying power

ColorBurst Lip Butter in Cherry Tart
It is quite sheer but the coverage can be blotchy sometimes

When layered, the color is softer and it covers very evenly.

I would highly recommend layering these two lippies. ;)
Revlon Lip butters provide good color base and the Colour Riche Balms add moisture and shine.
There are many shades available from the Revlon Lip Butters and the L'Oreal range covers pretty much all color palettes with minimal pigmentation, so the possible combinations would be endless. :)

  1. that's a good way to tone it down a little, thanks for sharing the tip and swatches!

  2. Interesting! I wish these would make their ways to Belgium soon! The happy medium is indeed pretty happy :)

  3. nice idea to tone them done. =D

  4. Wow I like this idea! I want to try this out!

  5. Aww looks so pretty layered, especially Raspberry Pie! I'm going to have to get L'Oreal lip balm too. :3

  6. i usually do that to my lipstick, cuz i have dry lips
but yours is well moisture and good colours too

  7. What a great idea! I've never thought about layering two lipsticks to combine it's qualities together. I really like how much more wearable the L'Oreal balm makes the Relvon lip butters look.

  8. Woo. I love the L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Heavenly Berry + Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie combination! Really nice colour!

  9. ColorBurst Lip Butter in Cherry Tart is my favourite! but I think you can pull of any colour!!*-* great idea to layer them, the result speaks for it!! ^-^

  10. lol thanks Melody!
i need something easy and safe on my lips cause i usually emphasize my eyes more.

  11. thank you! i am very happy with the combo myself.
raspberry pie is way too pigmented to be a sheer buildable lippie. it has sheen so it is kinda worse if that makes sense..; /

  12. thanks, Stacey :)
i actually don't like layering at all since i am bit lazy..lol
but i like this layering combo since it is much easier than lipstick + lipgloss combination.
i will still wear them as they are but i think layering works better for the darker colors. :)

  13. i guess i have problems with dark full coverage lipstics in general. L'Oreal balms provide good solution to that. i am happy. ;)

  14. thank you, Diana :)
to be honest, raspberry pie alone looks kinda gaudy on me. (*sobs*)
it is a shame cause it is such a vibrant pretty color!

  15. i hope so!
i just hope revlon launches them with fair price! i think i've seen some tweet saying that it's double os the u.s. price. now that's ridiculous. -.-

  16. i think l'oreal balm is good for layering in general. it adds sun protection, so it is a bonus! :)

  17. Oh really? Aww...it looks really nice in the pic though! I actually would prob prefer Cherry Tart though...not sure since I haven't tried either of those colors. *hands tissue*

  18. wow~ Heavenly Berry looks really nice on your lips~ i want one too!

  19. cherry tart is so much easy to work with.
i think raspberry pie looks weird because of the strong color + sheen combo factor...
    (thanks for the tissue! ^-----^)

  20. you should get one!
it is really pretty sheer color. so easy to just slather on lips without even thinking. :)

  21. Oooh, they look really pretty layered together!
I'll have to try this soon :)

  22. now i am layering the balms on everything. they are so great for that! lol

  23. Oh dear...now I *must* add it to my list! hehe

Btw this is a random comment but your Twitter avatar in the sidebar is really cute! :)

  24. you should! lol
i think layering with l'oreal balm is easier than using lipgloss. ;)

    thanks! ^-^**
