CHANEL | Fall 2023 Byzance Collection

Chanel Fall 2023 Byzance Eyeshadows Review Swatches

Chanel Byzance Eyeshadow Collection is part of Chanel's Fall 2023 makeup collections. Gabrielle Chanel loved Baroque jewelry, and her fascination with the Byzantine era influenced many of her collections. This collection features 4 eyeshadow quads with various jewel tones and is inspired by Chanel's Byzantine-style cuff bracelets. These eyeshadow palettes also come with the new "clean" talc-free formula with mineral-based pigment and vegetable oils not to mention the special matte gold plate with a hammered finish.

I have purchased all 4 quads and I have been enjoying them for a while. Now this collection is available in the U.S. Read on for the swatches and my thoughts.

Les 4 Ombres Byzance 308 Parure Imperiale ($70, Nordstrom)

Parure Imperiale features warm-toned gold and reddish colors. If you already own some of Chanel's red eyeshadow palettes and even the oversized palettes from last spring, you probably think this is the easiest to dupe. The gold and the coral red are quite unique in my collection, though. Some of the shades feel almost wet to the touch. The topper shade has bigger size shimmers and this rich and oily base. All colors are very well pigmented and blend very nicely.

Les 4 Ombres Byzance 318 Parure Vénitienne ($70, Chanel)

Parure Vénitienne is probably the easiest to wear among the 4 quads in the collection. It features soft and wearable warm neutral tones. But, the topper in this quad is so unique and beautiful that sets this warm neutral palette apart from others. Chanel describes it as a "moonstone" and it has a gorgeous green shift. I cannot get enough of it. I have been wearing it as a main lid shade as well.

Les 4 Ombres Byzance 328 Parure Cristal ($70, Macy's)

Parure Cristal is my personal favorite. It has the same composition as the Parure Vénitienne but in cool tones. It is a beautiful everyday neutral palette but also boasts this special topper shade that can transform a neutral look into something quite special. It has a sky-blue shift and I love it!

Les 4 Ombres Byzance 338 Parure Baroque ($70, Chanel)

Parure Baroque features rich and vibrant jewel tones. This palette is my second favorite for being unique and versatile in my collection. I've heard some people saying the color story reminds them of Christmas trees and ornaments. While that's completely understandable, that's not what I am seeing here. I see ruby, emerald, gold, and pearl - the jewels for the eyes as Chanel intended. I have worn both red and green in the same look and it's a perfectly beautiful and wearable look (I will feature makeup looks in my follow-up post) but if you mix these two shades together, you get beautiful muted smoky tones. For that, I find this eyeshadow very versatile. The topper here is a more noticeable one and it's quite sparkly.

Here, I have swatched all 4 quads in one place for your reference:

The new formula seems to perform very nicely from what I have experienced. I wouldn't say these are very pigmented but at least they seem to be more pigmented than the classic Tissé formula. The refined finish is very beautiful and color integrity is there as well.

Overall, I think it is a beautiful collection, and the Byzantine theme has been wonderfully executed in these eyeshadow palettes. It is also refreshing to see something different from Chanel.
