Look Book | MOTD (July 6, 2021)

MOTD

It is not always easy to find a good theme for the Look Book series, which is probably why I haven't done many lately. Well, here is a random MOTD (Makeup Of The Day) post in lieu of a proper Look Book post. The only agenda was to reach for the stuff that I don't use often.

The result was a soft mauve nude look. I am quite pleased with the outcome but I always feel that a makeup look with low contrast such as this requires more effort.

Perhaps the reason I don't reach for some of the makeup items used here is that I don't really like them despite how popular they are. For example, I still find Pat McGrath Subliminal Platinum Bronze palette very difficult to use and even unflattering on me (maybe this is why it is now discontinued although the full version of the palette still exists). I complain that Blitz Astral Quad Ritualistic Rose ($65, Sephora) isn't enough to create a complete eye look although the shimmers are out of this world. I have yet to see what is so special about Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip Liner ($22, Nordstrom). Chanel Le Volume de Chanel WP ($32, Chanel) is my least favorite high-end mascara.

There are some new and rediscovered favorites as well. I used to think Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua is kind of meh but it performed like a totally new foundation when I applied it with an angled foundation brush. I think I will reach for it more often from now on. Fenty Match Stix in Amber is a newly found favorite to contour with. This cool ashy brown shade is just perfect!

And of course, there are staples such as Chanel Stylo Yeux (I still haven't found a better waterproof eyeliner than this but do let me know) and the old NARS blush (Oasis is such a special shade. It's a mauve pink with a brown undertone and champagne specs. So gorgeous! NARS was unwise to have stopped making this one).

I hope you enjoyed this makeup look! Do you make a conscious effort to shop your stash?
