Dior 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette 679 Tutu

Dior has recently revamped the 5 Couleurs eyeshadow palette range and it is SO GOOD. I have a special spot for Dior 5 Couleurs (it was my first high-end makeup experience ever) and always regarded them highly, but the releases have been a little inconsistent over the past years. This time around though, it seems Dior has really improved the line. I have purchased 4 quints so far and all of them perform superbly and the color stories are all interesting. Tutu (679) is my latest acquisition but was my first pick when I saw the promo images. It must have been very popular since it had been out of stock on Selfridges for a long time. It was finally back in stock but this time priced slightly higher than the other colors...(why is that, Selfridges?).

A small logistic issue aside, Tutu is rather perfect! The colors are really well-thought of. In essence, it is a purple palette but not in an obvious way but in disguise. The good mix of satin, shimmer, and matte shades makes the palette so much more wearable.

All shades apply and blend like a dream. I love that even the darkest matte color goes on smoothly with little to no fallout. Dior usually suggests two types of applications - using the top 2 color plus the center one for a more subdued look and the bottom 2 and the center for a more dramatic look. For me, I prefer incorporating all 5 shades and it isn't difficult with Tutu thanks to the thoughtful composition.

Including Tutu, all 4 palettes I bought (Tutu, Soft Cashmere, Jungle, and Black Bow) have a sheer topper shade with a bigger shimmer. This reflects the current eye makeup trends and I really like that Dior has taken this into consideration while maintaining the classic feel to the range.

From the stock photos, I thought Tutu might be too similar to Soft Cashmere (I will show you Soft Cashmere soon. It's another stunner). If you are neutral color lovers like I am, you will immediately see these two are VERY different palettes. I have swatched theme side by side.

And, here are a couple of oveall looks with Dior 5 Couleurs Tutu and the makeup items I used to create the look:

  1. It might be my first choice because of that silvery purple taupe (but I suppose I have too many of those already and that matte burgundy is intimidating ).

    1. I thought it might be! It's such a great palette (and Macy's and Nordstrom have them on sale right now if you want to pull the trigger...LOL).
