Giorgio Armani Lip Magnet 500 Maharajah

Giorgio Armani Lip Magnet 500 Maharajah is like the first love for me. Nowadays, lip tint like Lip Magnet is nothing new and you can easily find similar formulations without having to pay $40 a pop. But, back then, Lip Magnet was magic. Rich and sophisticated colors and the sleek packaging aside, this super light lip tint feels weightless and stays on like a champ. For such a long-lasting formula with a matte finish, it doesn't dry out my lips. Even to this date, Giorgio Armani Lip Magnet is one of the best of its kind. I actually used up a tube of Maharajah with pleasure. I don't know why it took so long to replace it but maybe deep down I knew that I already have too many like it. (And, I usually feel hesitant to pay the full price for Giorgio Armani makeup for some reason.) For weeks now though, Giorgio Armani has been running a 40% off sale on many items including Lip Magnets. It was time.

Unlike Lip Maestro and Ecstasy Lacquer, Lip Magnet is housed in a chubby tube. I usually prefer a shorter applicator like this because it is much easier to handle. The pen-like applicator tip is what sets Lip Magnet apart from other gel tints out there. It's amazing how it picks up the exact amount that covers my whole lips that I don't have to dip it again (I mean, liquid makeup such as this gets spoiled quicker but I appreciate that I don't have to accelerate it by dipping multiple times in a single application). The formula is high-staining and sets quickly, so this precision applicator is a really big help.

Oh, I LOVE the color. I know some avoid hot pinks like Maharajah like the plague but I live for them. It's such a brightening color on me and quite practical as well since I could easily skip foundation and heavy eye makeup yet still look alive.

Among the many hot pink lip tints I have, Maharajah is probably the pinkest and most youthful-looking one.  To my eyes, Maharajah has this unique color balance between clarity and depth that it never looks gaudy despite of being such a bright pink.

Romand Juicy Lasting Lip Tint Dragon Pink looks similar to Maharajah so I have swatched them side by side. (Romand Juicy Lasting Lip Tint (reviewed) is pretty awesome, especially for the price. Dragon Pink has been discontinued but I highly recommend checking the other colors out. Formula wise, The Romand feels slightly wetter and cushier than Lip Magnet).

On the lips, they look quite similar but Dragon Pink flashes more blue compared to Maharajah.

In case you're interested in weightless (but super-strong) lip stain, Lip Magnet is currently 40% off on the Giorgio Armani website (with code "TIMELESS") but some colors appear out of stock. Nordstrom is running a 25% off sale on the same item but has all shades available. Both sites offer free shipping with no minimum.

Thanks for looking. Wish you a great weekend!

  1. Dragon Pink does look a bit more blue than Maharajah on the swatch too, but it's a shame it has been discontinued, it's such a pretty colour. Maharajah is lovely too and I really like the packaging, I think it's quite unusual to see a liquid lipstick in a shorter tube like that!

Thank you for the heads up on the sale, that's how I make all my slightly pricier purchases as well (either that, or I put it on a birthday wishlist haha). xo

    1. I love lip tints from Korean brands (they are great quality in general) but since there are way more warm-toned Korean (Asian) folks, colors like this often get sacked. I think longer applicators sometimes get in the way between myself and the mirror, you know? LOL

I loved your post on how to budget beauty purchase. I'm not so sure if GA is retiring these sale items or just trying to get rid of some inventories. Nowadays, every brand is running a big sale that 15-20% off doesn't even look good. I shouldn't splurge too much but my brain seems to be looking for ways to spend money non-stop these days. ;p

  2. You got me so tempted... but I think I will go for Romand just to save money (as I won't reach for it all the time) but maybe I should grab another shade just to play with the formula. you rock these raspberry shades!

    1. Thanks, Mina! I know you don't exactly love the "traditional" gel tints so maybe it's better to go with another Romand. Lip Magnet is thinner and more tenacious. For its kind, it's surprisingly non-drying and light but it doesn't moisturize like the Romand. I'd say Romand Juicy Lasting is closer to YSL Water Tint and feels more comfortable if not as long-lasting as Lip Magnet. The sale price is pretty sweet, though ;p (Get both... *whispers*)
