Look Book | Play It Cool

I did some major decluttering around the house, and I have to say it felt so good. Although I can never fully agree with the Konmari methods, the periodic exercise of tidying up does some good for the soul. I still have a sizable stash but now it's about 65% of what I had before, and I am darn proud of it. Technically, I have less but this has helped me to better realize what I have or what don't have (aha!). As result, I have been having more fun going for different makeup looks using what I already own. For a while, I mindlessly reached for neutral eyes and red lips but now I enjoy airy pastels and shimmer again. This look is about cool dusty pink and purple plus lots of shimmers.

Makeup look with NARS Sin blush and Roman Holiday Lipstick

I usually try to mix cool and warm tones together but in this look, I felt okay wearing cool shades because they are quite muted. This type of look actually requires more time and effort as you need a clean flawless base.

Here are the items I used:

Nothing is really new here because I stash-shopped for this look. A few things, though:
  • The NARS blush Sin (NARS just revamped the whole line discontinuing a bunch of gorgeous shades, btw.) is the most recent addition to my blush collection. I had wanted it for more than a decade but always hesitated thinking it was too similar to Oasis which I already own. Both are beautiful colors but the deep yet clear purple undertone in Sin works better on my complexion.
  • Essence Prince Lash Waterproof Mascara is my new favorite. It does everything - lengthens, volumizes, and holds curls without smudging a bit - yet it is so affordable!
  • Canmake Jewelry Shadow in 03 Baby Rose is good quality (meaning it feels smooth on and the glitter stays put) and nice to use along the lower lash lines. It has two pans of the same color but in slightly different textures. The one with finer shimmer is great to base or blend the harsh edges.

Another overall look:

It's kind of funny because this look is something I used to consider my "everyday look" but not any more. It only makes sense because my face has changed over the years as well as my taste in makeup along with the everchanging trends. I still enjoy wearing makeup and am keen on finding what looks best on me without having to work too much at it. Maybe that's something that hasn't changed, yet.

Thanks for looking! Have you recently decluttered your beauty collection? How does that affect your beauty routines?

  1. This look looks lovely on you! It's interesting though how you said this used to be more of an everyday look for you but not anymore. I also find that either my tastes have change or maybe I simply know best what suits me now. I used to do smokey eyes and more "fun" colours cheeks and lips. Now I do more toned down eyes (because I think too much dark smokey marks my wrinkles more haha), and mostly more natural rosewood colours for lips and cheeks. I also like purple undertones, like this blush you have here. I love Nars blushes so I'll check this out! My favourite is Mata Hari but Sin you have pictured here looks like it might suit me better :)

    1. Thanks for the lovely comment, Sofia! I think changing up our makeup styles is much funner rather than insisting on a single look. It's not just colors but also different textures as well. I think we have so many interesting makeup options as long as we choose to wear some. NARS Mata Hari is one of my favorites as well. Sin would look beautiful with your other rosewood colors and is surprisingly easy to handle although it is quite pigmented. :D

  2. Decluttering can be so satisfying and one of the best things is rediscovering old favorites that we had forgotten about. This look is gorgeous. I clean out my beauty stash every six months. There wasn't that much to toss this time because I'm down to the basics with one organizer and I'm pretty minimal with makeup cause I'm lazy as you know ;p

    1. I followed your lead, Rowena. :) To me, your way to find a sustainable life style is more inspiring than the crazy (well, at least it looks that way to me ;p) Konmari method, not to mention it is easier to follow through! I cleaned the apt more strategitically this time rather than hiding stuff temporarilly, so I've been able to keep it neat so far. :D

  3. I HATE clutter lol. I need do a major cleaning as I got super busy with FW. I tend to wear cooler shades. But want to break out of comfort zone at some point. You look great in these pinky cool tones.

    1. Thanks, Allie! I ended up donating at least 8 bags of shoes, bags, and clothes this time. It liberated my closet in the similar way. I totally understand how FW and being a fashion blogger in the city could introduce unwanted clutters. I guess we should keep decluttering and repeat. ;)
