Look Book 6 | Mauve Obsessions

Maybe it is time for me to admit that Huda Beauty Mauve Obsessions (swatched here) isn't the best-looking palette on me. I keep trying because I find these saturated mauves and purples irresistible and partly because I feel challenged. I've found most pink-based eyeshadows don't really complement my natural eye color but also make me look quite pale. The solutions would be to get new eyeballs or warm up the complexion (ditching the palette is not one of them, obviously). This post is about the latter although I have to say it's more fun to play with the first option (I mean color contacts with subtle green or gray hues, not actual eyeballs).

Huda Beauty Mauve Obsessions look
  • Huda Beauty Mauve Obsessions ($27)
  • Becca Backlight Priming Filter is an amazing primer with an iridescent champagne tint which helps make my complexion look healthy. ($18-38)
  • RMK Liquid Foundation in 101 is one of my favorite everyday foundations. The shade 101 is a half shade darker than my face and matches my summer neck color perfectly.
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Ebony is a great match to my natural brows but I personally think it is a bit hyped. ($21)
  • MAC Modern Kajal Eyeliner in Cat's Meow - I like this one a lot and use it almost every day. Sadly, it seems to have been discontinued. Any rec for a replacement?
  • L'Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara Carbon Black is my forever favorite. ($5.99)
  • Rimmel Exaggerate Full Color Lip Liner in You're All Mine is a pretty pale pink liner with a soft creamy texture. A great cheap thrill. ($4.99)
  • Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss in Noce Moscata ($30) is a prettiest nude gloss that I've been enjoying lately. Perfect to top over lip tint or lip liners.
  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Diffused Bronze Light ($24-50) - I bought a mini with much skepticism but ended up loving it. This pale bronzer with a cool undertone warms up the complexion ever so slightly and is excellent as a blush or even an eyeshadow color as well. It was worn all over in this look to achieve a warm healthy complexion.

  1. I think you found a lovely way to make this palette work for you with this makeup look Lena! The ombre type effect you created is really chic and elegant and would work well in the cooler months as well.

Hope you're staying cool and dry and having a fantastic weekend :D

    1. Thanks, Rowena! These colors can be worn very subtly if I just use a few of the pan at a time but I wanted to find a dramatic way to wear this palette as well. Glad to hear you think I've found a way! :)

  2. The color looks warm and beautiful on you! So your complexion warming strategy definitely worked! I like these colors in theory but am not sure how they'd fare on me as well. It's nice to sew this live and so pretty!

    1. If I don't use some bronzer, I look sickly pale for some reason. The mystery of colors, right? This is one of the few palettes I purchased because I liked "the look of it" not "it'd look good on me", so the struggle was kind of expected. ;D
