FOTD - Chanel Codes Élégants & Ardente

FOTD Chanel Codes Elegants & Ardente
Chanel Spring 2017 Codes Élégants & Ardente

It's not even March, but it feels like Chanel (and every other brand) will roll out the summer collections any day now. I might as well show the look before it's too late (wink), although I don't think I will limit these gorgeous colors to spring makeup. Both the eyeshadow quad and the lipstick look distinctly warm but once worn neutral in a certain way, which is almost weird. My opinion hasn't changed since my initial post with swatches, and I'd highly recommend them for those who don't usually wear warmer hues yet want to try some.

I do wish the darkest brown of the quad was creamier and more pigmented, but I don't feel that I need an additional base to add depths to the look.

Each color blends so well that it wouldn't matter however you use this quad, but in this particular look, I went with a classic placement. Using a fluffy brush, I applied the light gold shade (top left) all over, and I packed the medium gold (bottom left) on the folds. The dark brown (bottom right) was used on the outer Vs and also on the lower lash lines. I finished by brushing a bit of the white gold color (top right) on the inner corners.

Chanel Ardente swatch
I think this is a more accurate swatch of Ardente. It made me realize that not all warm reds are unwearable. Ardente is youthful and brightening.

Overall look. I skipped blush and highlighted the whole face instead using Illamasqua Beyond Powder OMG (to be reviewed).

Hope you enjoyed this look! I love that Chanel used somewhat holiday-esque elements and created a unique spring collection this year. I don't object to pastels in spring, but Chanel isn't the brand I particularly think is good at that. (Speaking of pastels, I've got some RMK stuff to show you soon. Spoiler - RMK knows how to pastel.)

  1. I love, love that fold shade! It works so beautifully with the darker brown shade too. You look lovely in Ardente - I love the youthful pop!

    1. Thank you! The medium gold shade has a tinge of green, which makes it a light-hearted antique gold, I would say? And I'm glad I've discovered some wearable warm lipstick shades lately. :)

  2. Oh that red! I'm with you that I can't pull off all warm reds either, they tend to go totally orange on me. But that lipstick looks wonderful on you! The eyeshadow too, gorgeous like fairies. (I'm feeling poetic today lol).

    1. I still love wearing neutral/cool reds because I feel less self-conscious about it, but on the other hand, those classic reds could look quite serious. I think warm reds are more modern and fun. It's just so hard to find a right one! Thank you for the twinkly words - they brighten my day! :D

  3. Bright lips with subtle glowy eyes. LOVE it! I agree the dark brown in the palette isn't as pigmented, but I actually really like to wear it on its own for a day time smokey look. And add one of the golds at the center of the lid as a little pop of color :-)

    1. Thank you! I think in general shimmery shades play better especially the ones in Chanel half-baked quads. Still, compared to the old ones I have no complaint. LOL. It is a great smoky quad, indeed! I should try the placement you mentioned soon with light glossy lips. <3

  4. The shimmer on this quad is really beautiful Lena! It looks smokey yet glittery but not OTT though I do suspect your application may have something to do with that ;) You definitely didn't need the blush with this look because the eyes and lips make such a strong statement!

I totally loved meeting and hanging out with you yesterday ^_^ I swatched the Pur foundation on the side of my face this morning and the shade was a perfect match. I get what you mean about the texture now but it didn't really bother me.

    1. Thank you, Rowena! <3

It was beyond awesome finally meeting you that I even wished we had met sooner! You're such a genuine and lovely person (even more so that I thought you'd be ^-^). I'm so glad to hear that the foundation is a great match for you! For me, the Pure Beige works better but Fresco looks quite alright, too. Thanks again for letting me have both. I will post about them soon.

Wish you a wonderful weekend! :)

  5. Super pretty and it makes me think of a classic 'holiday' collection look! I personally love these shadows from them and I was sooo close to buying the quad tisse gabrielle but I ended up picking up lots of other items instead but I totally will next time my family goes to duty free! Love the texture of these shadows.

    1. Thank you, Sharlynn! It's very holiday, right? Yet there is this airy quality about the quad and the lipstick that the whole thing works for spring. Do get at least one in your favorite colors when you get a chance. I'd even say try both the recent and the former U.S. ones if you can. The U.S. ones come with squarish pans and go on super creamy, and they are still avail on eBay and other online space. :)
