Chanel Codes Élégants & Ardente (Chanel S/S 2017 Makeup Collection)

Chanel Les 4 Ombres 274 Codes Élégants and Rouge Allure 175 Ardente

Yes, it is still too early to talk about a spring makeup collection and I may have initially thought this particular collection looked rather mundane. However, I was totally won over after seeing Sabrina(of The Beauty Look Book)'s swatches. I picked up two items both in warmer colors. Which is quite unusual for me, but lately I have been wearing warmer shades more comfortably and wanted to add more to my current collection.

The colors are so pretty and the performance is one of the best that I've seen in Chanel's recent offerings. I know that not everybody is a fan of Chanel Les 4 Ombres formulation (it tends to vary on a quad by quad basis). You wouldn't have to compromise between colors and formulation this time, because all shades in Codes Élégants are very pigmented and wear beautifully. Rouge Allure Ardente is a warm youthful red with an excellent semi-sheer formula. It feels thin and comfortable on my lips and stays that way. The color fades away gradually leaving a natural stain behind. This is a perfectly fresh red for spring. I will do a separate look post featuring these two in the upcoming week.

Happy weekend, everyone!

  1. Oooh, semi sheer is that what you said? I need to give it a swatch when I pass by macys. I bought rouge coco shine boheme but haven't woren it yet... I wish the Asia exclusive blanc collection would be here since there is a sheer plummy red I liked.

    1. Yes, semi-sheer but packed with rich pigment. Like their eyeshadow quads, Rouge Allure formulation varies depending on colors. This one is ideal for me as it is sheer yet easy to control color intensity. It looks luminous and feels very light on the lips. Boheme is right up your alley. It is a very pretty coral/red.

  3. I've not passed by a CHANEL counter as my wallet and bank account still need to recover from this year's holiday spending! I'm curious if there are any nude lipsticks in the range? I'll have to give it a swatch as I love anything semi-sheer!

    1. Yes, there are a few neutral shades available but they are in the Rouge Allure Velvet formulation, which is actually my favorite semi-matte range. Let me know what you think once you visit a counter. :)

  5. I was so tempted but resisted! Their quads are so much better since they reformulated them. These colours look good too. The rusty golds are right up my alley :-)

    1. Like you, I've been wanting warmer shades a lot more lately. I don't feel weird wearing them, either! I think this whole collection is very wearable and well done. I might not be able to stop here. (Oh, no...)

  7. The lipstick is too orange for me but that quad is stunning! I am glad to see a quad from Chanel that finally lives up to its name!

    1. The lipstick color is more of a poppy - I was surprised that I could pull this off. Some orangey reds are more wearable than others. So strange! It seems both quads from the collection are amazing. Do check them out. :)

  8. I usually equate the cooler months with cooler shades so I love that you've been bucking the trend and rocking warm tones lately. In the end it comes down to wearing what makes us happy anyway right ;p The pigmentation of that quad looks really outstanding. Happy new week to you Lena!

    1. Happy new week to you as well, Rowena! <3

I didn't know warm tones are trending - no wonder! I thought it was unusual that Chanel included a very few neutral in the collection and everything else is warm toned. For some reason, these warm colors play quite neutral on me that I'm happy! :)

  9. Wow, the colors look super pigmented and gorgeous from here! They look even better swatched on your hand. You are reminding me to check out Chanel again when we pass Duty free. Their colors sometimes really hit it out of the park!
The colors look lovely on you!

    1. Thanks! :) I have been wearing the quad a lot in different ways - the quality is really there! I myself am a fan of Chanel quads in general (I mean, I even like those rock hard old formulations), but I think this collection would appeal to those who prefer creamy textures.
