(I personally think it is highly debatable if cosmetic industry is indeed the biggest evil of child labor related to mica mining. Not to discourage many conscious consumers out there, but let me just say that cosmetic industry takes only a fraction of this whole mica business (not to mention there have been many successful endeavors to find substitutes) and women are almost always targeted whenever consumerism is in question.)

On a lighter (and prettier) note, I think Lunasol does shimmer and glitters right (plus I suspect they use synthetic ones although I don't have ingredient lists to confirm that). Lunasol Geminate Eyes 04 is another fine example, and I must apologize in advance this particular color is no longer available.

This is my 4th Lunasol eyeshadow palette. My friend Pauline gave this to me saying that she knew this would be probably the prettiest cool blue quint there was yet she didn't reach for it anymore. I didn't really try to persuade her to keep it as she is a wise person.

As you can't fail to see, Lunasol Geminate Eyes Sapphire is very, very pretty. Except for the darkest and the highlighting shade, the rest three differ from each other only slightly in tone and texture.

I always say if you are going to spend a bit more on eyeshadows, invest in lighter pastels like this. There are tons of affordable browns and neutrals that are compatible to higher ends, but not so many of pastel blues and light greens. Most of them look pretty upon application only to quickly turn into some mirky grey hues. Actually, I've experienced the same with many brand name eyeshadows, too. I am afraid higher quality ingredients are a must for pastels to maintain color integrity. It is rather remarkable that all five colors from Geminate Eyes 04 are subtly different yet the colors stay about the same all day long. For me, this is the pastel blue eyeshadow palette that I must keep in my collection.

For today's look, I used

1 for filling the lid space
2 to blend it out and soften the harsh edges
3 to line my lower lash lines
4 to highlight and brighten inner corners of the eyes.

I used to wear cool pastels like this all the time but now find myself reaching for safe neutrals way more often. I wouldn't mind wearing Lunasol Geminate Eyes 04 once in a while, though. This is rather nice for an icy winter princess kind of look, and I happen to have a coat which matches the palette perfectly.

  2. This looks great on you, with your fair skin and blue contacts and all. While I was in China, I was browsing at Taobao(Lunasol used to have counters there but now it became much less popular so overstock is easy to find online) I saw this and was just too intimidated by all the blues...For now I think Ruby and Cat Eyes are much easier to handle.

    1. Thank you! The official website has already pulled out this color and left two of easier-to-wear ones which I wouldn't mind owning in the future. All my Lunasol palettes are from the olden days and they are all in fantastic quality, imho.

  3. This palette is extremely gorgeous! Love the shimmery blue tones, they are so rich and just perfect! I love the deeper blues, this would make for a great smokey blue eye or a simple look too!

    1. I usually go for deeper blues like navy. But this is worth owning if you love blue eyeshadows. I think this palette would look amazing on your complexion.

  4. Ah you look amazing in blue shadows. I've only been wearing browns and neutrals and have been ignoring most colours. And come to think of it, I think we lost the only Lunasol counter in my city. That totally sucks!

    1. Thank you, Lily!

I heard Lunasol was becoming less popular in Asian countries. I am just starting to love them even more but to think about it they are all from the olden days. People seem to agree that their old palettes are better quality.

    2. I still have 1 of their palettes, one of my favourites. I was obsessed with it at one time, but as I followed their releases, they just seem to look the same. The palette I have is from one its old Fall releases and it's absolutely gorgeous.

    3. Speaking of Fall releases, I actually want the recent Chocolate stuff. They are different from their previous releases for sure. If I can justify myself for having another brown/neutral palette, I'd go for it (now I want it more. Thanks, Lily ;p)
