NOTD - Essie Shelter Island

Essie Shelter Island is one of my favorite blue nail polishes.
This vivid cerulean blue polish comes in the signature Essie gel-creme finish. The color has a tinge of green but clearly belongs to the cooler side of the spectrum that looks amazing against my skin tone.

Essie Shelter Island is one of the shades that equally looks good either indoors or outdoors.
Here is another picture taken under indirect natural light.

No issue with application here. It covers nicely with two coats, but not entirely to an opaque finish, which is the way I prefer.

Lately I have been just stash shopping my existing nail polish collection.
There are some red and nude staples that I keep reaching for, but there are some like Essie Shelter Island with which I fall in love all over again, although we only get to meet once or twice a year.

  1. such pretty shade! I love blue/aqua shades for the summer. I love the Essie Bikini So Teeny. I saw that on my niece's nails last summer and I had to grab one for myself afterwards.

    1. Essie Bikini So Teeny is another great blue! I think blue nail polishes go very well with all those bronzy makeup in summer. :)

  2. Totally love it against your skintone, the undertone is just nice, not too cool or warm. I don't have any like this! Totally must get one next time!

    1. Thank you, Sharlynn! :)
I really like the complex yet clear color of this polish and its coverage. I rather dislike opaque finish in blue polishes.

Really pretty! I like blues and this one is fab on you. I know a lot of people like wearing blues in the summer, but I think they are pretty all year round!

I usually just wear nudes and sheers in summer but blue polishes are so fun! And I definitely agree with you that blue polishes look pretty and chic all year round. :)

  4. Hey Lena, I read the post earlier today and I looked for it in the store. Couldn't find it! Was it LE? I don't even wear blue often, but this looks so good on you that I have to check it out!

    1. Hi Sunny! Glad to see you're back! :)
This is from the resort collection of 2009 but I do believe it is still around. There are some dupes as well. L'Oreal Oceal Breeze is a spot on dupe, for example.

  5. What a gorgeous vibrant color! Blue tones are nice for the summer cause it's kind of like having a little hint of the ocean on your nails :)

I don't go for brights in summer that often, but this kind of blue colors are exceptions. ;)

  7. I like blues! I don't think I have a teal quite like this...probably the closest is Dior St Tropez but I think it's slightly different.

    1. Dior St. Tropez is so pretty! I think that one has more green in it, though.
Shelter Island is flat out blue but has just a little bit of green if you look really really close. LOL

  8. I have an OPI blue that's similar, but I think it's in the purge box, lol. I love blues but I decided anything that's watery and not fully opaque in 2 coats is going to have to find a new home. This looks so breezy and summery! Nice one. :)

    1. Ah, I see you like the opaque ones!
I prefer gel-creme finish with a bit of transparency. Watery is a whole different thing, though. ;)

I usually stay away from stark opaque ones, but there is something very breezy yet refined feeling to this blue shade, which is why I love it so much. :)
