Review - New Olay Fresh Effects {Dew Over!} Hydrating Gel Moisturizer

Getting enough shuteye is one of the most basic and important things for me in skincare. It always seems that my skin looks dull and lackluster with less sleep. Unfortunately, I experience that way too often due to my irregular schedule, so naturally my interest was piqued when I heard about this new gel hydrating moisturizer from Olay.

Olay Fresh Effects {Dew Over!} Hydrating Gel Moisturizer
It is supposed to instantly energize and invigorate skin.
No Sleep Required! :)

is an oil-free and non-comedogenic gel that is infused with honeysuckle and anti-oxidant rich white tea.
This lightweight moisturizer also contains good cell-communicating ingredients like niacinamide.

Gel type moisturizer seems to be very popular especially in the Asian countries, so I couldn't be happier that Olay has introduced one that I can easily acquire locally not to mention it is priced very reasonably considering all the good ingredients.

This gel is translucent mint color and has a light fluffy consistency.

Olay {Dew Over!} has a sweet fruity floral scent which I personally find quite delicious.
This is something to consider if you're sensitive to fragrance.

It feels cool and instantly hydrating on contact.
This gel absorbs quickly leaving my skin silky to touch.

I have combination skin with oily T-zone, so Olay{Dew Over!} is perfect as the warmer months quickly approach.
This gel moisturizer makes a very good base for a foundation since it contains powder to provide the velvety finish without balling up or adversely interacting with my sunscreen.
I find it rather remarkable that Olay {Dew Over!} keeps my skin moisturized despite of the oil-control effect.
Olay {Dew Over!} is versatile to use for both day and night time, which is why I recently brought it with me on a weekend trip.
Other than frequently reaching for this as an anytime no-fuss moisturizer, I also like to use Olay {Dew Over!} as an instant pick-me-up hydrating mask. All I need is to put on a generous amount of this gel on freshly cleansed skin and relax. My skin feels instantly revived and rested.

I've actually used up a jar and I'm already on my second one.

To summarize, Olay {Dew Over!} is an excellent lightweight moisturizer with multiple merits and affordability. It is perfect for those who have oiler skin, although I personally think it would benefit all skin types due to the lasting hydrating effects.

  1. oil controlling and a gel! i'm so there. i've tried a variety of gel moisturizers and surprisingly the density of the gel really impacts if i like it or not. some are so thin, they don't do anything for moisturization and others leave me oily b/c they dont mattify. this sounds like a great product.

    1. I think I know what you're saying. Luckily, {Dew Over!} isn't overly thin. It is rather creamy for gel if that makes sense. My skin feels quenched but the finish is powdery. Weird but nice thing! :)

  2. It looks like a better version of the AquAction Long Lasting Hydration Gel that I reviewed on my blog thanks to the oil control function http://bijinblair.blogspot.com/2014/03/olay-aquaction-long-lasting-hydration.html

By any chance, is the AquAction range available in the US?

    1. Unfortunately AquAction isn't available here, which is why I am quite happy with this Olay launch. I liked it a lot so I bought another jar after I used up the PR sample. That says a lot, right?
Thanks for the link, btw. ;)

  3. I use a similar green tinted gel from Garnier and love it in the summer. That one doesn't control oil though. Hmmm! This would probably work well for me. I'm sure that you already know this trick, but I love putting gel creams in the fridge and putting it on during hot days. SO NICE. :DDD

    1. I've read some reviews comparing them. They sound quite similar to each other! {Dew Over!} does seem to control oil well, though.
I hadn't thought about the cooling mask idea, actually! I will try that this weekend. Thanks for the tip! <3

  4. Oooh, sounds nice and cooling and...there is a Korean word for this. 시원하다?

    1. Absolutely! 시원하다 is perfect for this gel moisturizer. Also, "산뜻하다" (refreshing). ;D

Nice! That's great that it controls oil so well for you! I had the normal one, and it was ok-not enough moisture for my dry skin but this one sounds pretty great for oily skins!

    1. My skin is much drier than before but T-zone could be a problem sometimes. Good thing is that this gel moisturizer actually keeps my skin moisturized.
I'm also using a richer cream from Olay at night, and this is awesome, too. :)

    1. I prefer fragrance free in general, but I find the scent is quite delicious without being too sweet. It is very cooling and hydrating at the same time. :)

  7. Lol, I found it slightly comical how "Olay {Dew Over!}" kept appearing in the text :p That's a whole lot of inserted enthusiasm. This sounds really soothing and lightweight. It reminds me a lot of Elizabeth Arden Perpetual Moisture 24 Cream - it even looks like it in colour/texture :)

    1. LOL. I wish I wrote beautifully like you. Using { } and ! in the name was an interesting choice, too. I often wonder how these companies come up with names and imagine about their meetings for decision and such. I know, "Mad Men" influenced. ;)
I didn't know about the EA cream. They have so many underrated great products, imo.

  8. Ah, this looks and sounds so good, but why the dyes?! Sometimes I think I'm better off not knowing the ingredients for skin care >.<
My moisturizer of choice is LUSH Celestial, but I do love a nice refreshing toner to bring the life back into my skin. Lately it's been the Instant Boots Tonic from Liz Earle.

    1. I guess there are still a good number of people feel that mint green gel is more refreshing? ;) I don't know..it seems that there are big part of mind play and synergy linked to the actual effect of skincare.
Good thing is that this gel moisturizer does not irritate my skin at all and does its job pretty well. :)

  9. I've been hearing a lot of positive things about the fresh effects range, it sounds so promising! It's probably too cold here in Syndey at the moment to use this moisturizer, but when summer hits, I'll be sure to give it a try!

    1. I'm definitely interested in the range after experiencing this. I think I like this even more as a quick facial mask. It is not everyday I buy my own after using up a PR sample. ;)
