Review - DeVita Solar Protective Moisturizer SPF 30+, Trader Joe's enrich Moisturizing Face Lotion SPF 15

I always make sure to put on moisturizer with sunscreen on my neck area.
(A woman's neck and hands reveal her true age!)
Sometimes my neck reacts more sensitive than my face to some ingredients, so I am always on the lookout for something mild yet effective.

I have recently found this moisturizer with sun protection from DeVita and I have been happily using this everyday on my neck.

Trader Joe's enrich Moisturizing Face Lotion SPF 15

Yes, I am going to talk about the Trader Joe's lotion as well later on, but let's cover the DeVita one first. ;)

I never heard of this brand before I bought this moisturizer.
I chose this solely based on the ingredients and its reasonable price.
Let me tell you that paying under $15 for a 2.5 oz tube with 19% zinc oxide is a pretty good deal.
I was sold on the fact that this is paraben free and 100% vegan as well.

As you see, the ingredients list is quite simple and packed with nice ones.
It is also safe for children.

I have used this on my face and it works well under makeup, but I mainly use this on my neck every morning.
It is moisturizing but absorbs in quite nicely so it feels never greasy.
This moisturizer is not scented but has a mild (and the usual) smell of something with zinc oxide which fades away instantly.
I am completely satisfied with this and I plan to keep purchasing this.
(I got mine from vitacost.com (not affiliated).)

Before I talk about the TJ lotion, I must rant about the reformulated Olay Complete moisturizer for sensitive skin (SPF15).
The old formula had been my staple for many years. I used to put this on everywhere, on my neck, face and my whole body!
Sadly (and stupidly), Olay changed its formula with avobenzone in May of 2009, and I never bought anything from Olay ever since. (Yes, I was pissed.)
I don't know what they were thinking putting avobenzone in a product designed for sensitive skin!
(Avobenzone may cover broader spectrum, but it is very very unstable not to mention it is an eye irritant. It can react negatively to some common ingredients found in base makeup as well. And I hate the smell..)

So, imagine how happy and surprised I was to spot this TJ version of the old Olay lotion!
It has the same old active ingredients and even the bottle looks like the Olay one.
And it is way cheaper! ($3.99 for 4 oz bottle)

I have been using this on my arms and hands a lot lately.
I would need something more moisturizing when the weather gets colder, but it works fine so far.

Thanks for reading this text heavy post today. :)
Do you use moisturizer with sunscreen on you neck?
Are you particular about the active ingredients in sunscreens like I am?

  1. Great post! I'm also using the TJ lotion. It's a great lotion for me in the summer but for colder temps I def need a bit more. I'm going to try using it on my hands:)

  5. I must say the packaging is lovely,Lena! I love the simplicity of it but it somehow looks whimsical retro ( if that makes sense ? ;p )
I have heard a lot of Trader's Joe and I am so curious to see it in person!! Btw, I might be visiting NYC next year in september.. still looooong way to go but I am already so excited! :D

  6. i think so, too! i checked out the whole range of the brand, and they are all nicely packaged.
i just giggled a bit imagining you shopping here in the nyc.
i am lucky to have a TJ store just two blocks away from my place. it is an awesome place for "educated poor" people like me. lol

  11. I loved it that the ingredients are really simple! I heard from a skincare expert says that the lesser the list of ingredients the better the product performs!~ So I always make it a point to run through the list of ingredients when trying out products, even though I don't know most of them (lolz) but I still run through them ^_~

  12. usually sunscreens with micro zinc oxide are quite expensive. i am glad this DeVita one is reasonably priced and it does not leave white cast behind. real nice and mild!
i think you're doing the right thing reading the ingredients.
obsessing about is is bad but knowledge is power! :)

  16. oh i break out on my chest if there is avobenzone in it. try a very light one with spf 15 only. the protection percentage difference is merely by 2-3% btw SPF 15 and SPF 30 for example. putting on sufficiently is more of an important issue. :)

  17. my mother used to say that: A woman's neck and hands reveal her true age! :) It's something I always have in mind and therefore sunscreen is my best friend :) I still haven't found a good (or better HG) moisturizer. I wish this brand would be available worldwide. I still don't know, if an organic/natural cream would be a better option. I think this one would be agreat choice for my chest and neck. I hope I can try it out someday.

  18. wise mom! :)
DeVita is a pretty small brand, i guess. i am not very into all natural products myself, actually. i dislike sunscreens with all mineral blockers for instance, but i react badly to octocrylene and avobenzone. so difficult to choose a good one indeed! ;-/

  19. I do use moisturizer on my neck and hands too, whatever excess I have for my face goes on the back of my hands.

Sounds like a great product! Hope you're having a lovely week!

  21. Urgh I hate it when products we love get reformulated for the worse! So annoying and disappointing :( I hardly ever wear sunscreen on my neck - though I do always make sure it's on my face. Your post reminded me I really need to work on that :p

  22. i know! right? ;) i used to buy a lot from Olay but not anymore. all the cruelty free issues aside, this brand just lost its charm.
start with a simple moisturizer with SPF 15 for your neck. neck area could be quite sensitive sometimes. ;)
