CLINIQUE Cheek Pop Palette : Cool Down

Clinique Cheek Pop Palette Cool Down review swatches

I tried a couple of Clinique Cheek Pops years ago and liked them quite a bit, but I haven't paid much attention to them since. Lately though, I have been seeing many Instagram posts about this Asia exclusive Ballerina Pop shade and the new Garden Party edition. At first, I didn't even know Ballerina Pop isn't an ongoing color in North America, but such a pale color with so much white in the base is never popular in this market. Nevertheless, I ended up wanting one for myself and started searching online. I couldn't find any Garden Party stuff or a single Ballerina Pop but found this trio palette instead.

(The palette has a sky blue/purple exterior with a ton of glitters. Not exactly my thing, but the glitters are glued well and it will keep well. The case is slim and easy to open and close.)

Cool Down palette is one of the limited edition blush palettes from 2019 consisting of 3 cool-toned shades. The exclusive Ballerina Pop is one of them. The palette was priced at $29.50 which was a great deal since a single Cheek Pop is $25. I bought mine on eBay for about the same price as the retail and you can still find one on Amazon under $29 (there is the warmer counterpart, Warm Up palette as well if you're into warm shades).

Normally, I wouldn't blog until I try them on my face but I got so excited yesterday when this arrived and decided to do a quick swatch post (which has gotten already long at this point...). So, let's look at some colors!

Heather Pop is a warm medium pink with a subtle sheen.

Pansy Pop is a medium lavender which appears a cool pink on the skin. It also has the same kind of refined sheen.

Ballerina Pop is a very pale pink with a neutral undertone.

All three colors have the Cheek Pop's signature gel-powder finish that sits very close to the skin.

  • I am pleasantly surprised by Heather Pop as it looks quite complex and expensive - can't wait to try this on.
  • Pansy Pop is something I can carefreely reach for on a daily basis. It might significantly warm up once applied on the skin, though.
  • Ballerina Pop looks almost satin, which reminds me of those ballet slippers. For a color with lots of white in it, I find it impressive to see it's not that powdery. I am very curious to see how it plays on the skin!

A'pieu Pastel Blushes in VL01 and VL03 looked close to Ballerina Pop and Pansy Pop, so I wanted to see how they compare.

Actually, VL01 (cool pink) is closer to Pansy Pop, and VL03 (pale lavender) is a completely different animal. The A'pieu blushes go on much more powdery, though.

So, that's it for today. I will try them on as soon as possible and either update here or feature them in Look Book series.

Thanks for being here. Hope you're having a nice week!

  1. From the blogger I read on weibo (not the same pretty one with lot of Japanese eyeshadow palettes) she said ballerina pop is really nice is that it doesn't look like makeup but a hint of pink and more see through skin/and she said it plumps up the apple of the cheeks instantly...

Anyway it was so popular on Clinique Chinese official store that there was only 4 left (of the regular edition, sakura print was long sold out) when I looked...

    1. Oh, thanks for sharing! Her descriptions make sense and now I am even more excited. It seems many Korean bloggers use Ballerina Pop as either a topper or a base with other blush colors. I am hoping to use it as a standalone shade, though. :D

  2. I didn't realise how good value the palettes are considering the individual blushes are so expensive. Heather Pop looks like my sort of colour, it looks like it leans slightly warmer than the other two as well.

    1. I myself didn't realize how much more expensive it got over time. I think it was just $18 when Cheek Pop first came out, but then, everything else got expensive. This palette is a steal for sure. I think Heather Pop is a beautiful shade that will complement your complexion!
