Chanel Le Vernis Shantung is a beautiful cool berry red with a cream finish. It's one of my favorites so I panicked a bit when Chanel recently sacked Shantung (I may be wrong but I can't find it from the Chanel website). My bottle is still full but I seriously considered getting a backup on eBay. Then, I remembered that I still have 2 unopened bottles of Chanel Paradoxal in my stash. I don't regret buying the backups because Paradoxal is very special, but I also realize maybe I shouldn't run out to get another Shantung.
Anyway, isn't Shantung gorgeous? It is quite pigmented and applies like dream, I only need one coat to get a mani like this photo. I really like the other classic red polishes from Chanel such as Gitane and Pirate, but Shantung is the one I repurchased.
I pulled out some of the pink-toned red nail polishes for comparison.

Revlon Nail Enamel Cherries In The Snow
Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish Sexy Back
Chanel Le Vernis Shantung
Essie Nail Polish She's Pampered
Apart from Sexy Back which is visibly more berry, the other three are similar in terms of color. Cherries In The Snow has this opaque retro finish where Shantung and She's Pampered have a gel-cream finish. I'd say the Essie is closest to Shantung, but not a dupe.
I have been buying quite a few new makeups lately but now I am on a relaxed no-buy. I won't buy anything new unless it truly jumps out and makes my heart flutter. Truth is that I have close to 100 items waiting to be blogged (I have a Pinterest board for this). Checking my own inventory really seems to help curb my appetite for new stuff!
Thanks for looking. Do you tend to buy backups for beauty products?

Shantung is absolutely lovely, I like reds with a berry undertone to them. I also really like Cherries in the Snow by Revlon, I have their lipstick of the same name :).
ReplyDeleteI sometimes repurcahse products, especially if I find out it is going to be discontinued. My all tiem favourite blusher (NARS Douceur) was one example of that...but I have used all my backups of that too :(
Oh, Revlon Cherries in the Snow is a truly beautiful classic. The nail polish is a real one-coater, isn't it? I used to have this in the Super Lustrous formula but it's so pigmented that I found hard to wear. But, recently Revlon included this iconic shade in the new Glass Shine Lipstick formula (which is sheer and glossy) and I couldn't be happier with it. I think you'd like this one as well!
DeleteI think that's the dilemma with backups. If I get backups, I either never get to them or something better comes along. If I don't, I end up regretting...LOL. NAR Douceur was so beautiful. I think the brand made a huge mistake discontinuing it!
that's such a gorgeous shade of red! love it
ReplyDeleteI really like Shantung!
