Chanel Le Vernis 538 Gris Obscur

Chanel Gris Obscure swatch

This week I am wearing Chanel Gris Obscure on my nails. It is from the Chanel Fall collection in 2016 and I had totally forgotten that I own this one. Gris Obscure is a very dark grey with silver micro-shimmer. This one has a creme base, not a jelly base which would have made this nail polish so much more beautiful.

It is still a very good option for a wearable "black" nail polish. Pure black nail polishes are often hard to wear because they tend to compete with the skin tone, not to mention they are usually difficult to apply. Since Gris Obscur is technically a grey and thanks to that micro-shimmer that is almost invisible to the eyes yet adds some dimension to the color, it applies and wears well. I usually paint a generous single coat and find it enough for coverage. Wear time is average with some tip wears in a week if you use a good base and topcoat.

Thank you for looking! It's another uncertain month but I am hopeful that the city will be slowly opening in a week. There are many words and thoughts floating around these days and the recent racist events certainly have made me retrospect. And, the truth is that I haven't fully wrapped my head around it. I know that something has to be done so I have signed a petition and made a small donation to ACLU. I hope you join in a way you can as well and we will make positive changes this time.

  1. I love this shade Lena. When I was in my teens I went through a phase of wearing black nail polish, but it looked rather harsh against my skin tone. This dark grey looks much more wearable.

The recent events have been terrible. I'm definitely taking time to educate myself more about race and people's experiences of it. Also I have signed petitions and donated. Hopefully if we all continue it can bring about real change. xo

    1. There is something about black nail polishes, isn't it? Not just black, but most paint-like perfect shades look kind of terrible on the skin. I'm glad to have a wearable option in my nail polish wardrobe. :)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and being a part of the real change. I am tired of those meaningless online sharings like black squares, for example. But, I'm also tired of what's been going on in the U.S. for the past 4 years and really looking forward to some changes around here!
