CANMAKE Perfect Stylist Eyes (14) Antique Ruby

CANMAKE Perfect Stylist Eyes (14) Antique Ruby review swatches

I enjoy Canmake makeup a lot (Cream Cheek is such a gem) and I think they are a great deal even with the markups. When it comes to their eyeshadows though, I've had a mixed experience. Juicy Pure Eyes, for example, was a complete miss and got tossed away. Jewelry Shadow Veil, on the other hand, is quite good and I reach for it often. However, I haven't decided whether I like the Perfect Stylist Eyes Antique Ruby ($9 on Amazon) or not!

I know that I like the color story and how the colors apply. The powder is finely milled and applies better on the skin unlike the Juicy Pure Eyes (this one is too powdery and doesn't last at all). The colors are very pretty and this particular palette seems popular among Asians. Sadly, I haven't been able to make this petit quint look good on me, yet.

(The palette is tiny but at this point in my makeup journey, the amount of eyeshadow I get is not an issue.)

Although small, the palette has a dual-ended applicator and even a slim mirror. The color composition is thoughtful yet striking. Theoretically, it would best suit blue and pale grey eyes.

You can find the "How To Use" diagram on the back of the palette. The pink and the red (B & C) are the main shades and you can create two slightly different looks depending on which you choose. I have seen more than a few tutorials incorporating all 5 shades, though.

The colors are gorgeous and they swatch beautifully. The texture is completely different from the Juicy Pure Eyes disaster. It feels moderately powdery but with minimal powder kickups. The colors are well pigmented but not too crazy and they maintain some sheer quality. This is actually how I prefer my eyeshadows and why I usually steer away from those super-pigmented eyeshadows.

(Pretty, aren't they? Looking at swatch photos is therapeutic if you ask me.)

I will definitely give it a few more tries because Antique Ruby is just too pretty to let go. I always struggle with pink/red eyeshadows anyway so it's obviously me, not Antique Ruby. I am planning on a roundup post on Canmake stuff in my collection soon and I will report back with how it went.

Thanks for being here. It's been a tough week with many feelings and retrospections. I wish a better hopeful week for all of us.

  1. Ha I specifically avoided this because I know this will look ruddy as hell once blended. The cheaper canmake shadow totally behave like their price do. Cezanne, majolica Majorca and chifure are nicer for the $4-5 range.

    1. It's too early to tell but I think I need to apply these colors lightly and try not to smoke it out. I also got one of the newer Canmake palettes. Hope it works for me because the colors are so pretty. I need to explore Majolica Majorca! Cezanne looks a bit too tame but I'm also interested. :)

  2. I hear you with regards to pink and red eyeshadows. I have grey eyes but I mainly stick to browns. I really like the taupe and the champagne shades in this palette though, so I'd probably try them out with the smallest application of the other shades :).

Did you change your blog layout? I really like it :)

    1. Grey eyes & brown/taupe is also a beautiful color combination, of course! I wore this palette again today and I am now convinced that I need to wear these bright colors lightly, not to smoke them out. I was also wearing a pair of green contacts so that helped, too. LOL

Yes, I did it again! Glad to hear you like it. I love this etsy designer and have bought 9 of her templates over time. Her templates are very affordable and functional although you need to know a bit about html if you want to finetune the details. I switch them around often. :)

  3. I have come to like reddish shadows! It can take some playing around with, but I love them for Fall and Winter looks!
