Lunasol Nuance Shade Eyes 01 Romantic Scene

Lunasol Nuance Shade Eyes 01 Romantic Scene review swatches

Nuance Shade Eyes Romantic Scene is a part of Lunasol's 2018 fall makeup collection. I didn't know about it at all until the following spring when I came across some promo images on the web. It was spring and all but for some reason, I kept looking at this moody quad with the obviously fall-appropriate color story. I enjoy Lunasol eyeshadow palettes and have many of them but I never have paid markups for them. For this though, I ended up doing that.

I was probably more drawn into it because the way the eyeshadows are molded in this quad reminded me of the old Suqqu eyeshadow palettes. Plus I wanted to wear the popular reddish/burgundy eye makeup trends myself and this one looked doable to my eyes. The burgundy hue in the main shade looked quite vivid yet sophisticated and it's surrounded by the cool base and liner colors. And, that gorgeous shimmery topcoat. Did you see the topcoat shade? (Except that I found out it wasn't really a topcoat later on...)

All colors swatch beautifully. And, the texture indeed is similar to the old Suqqu. Unlike the other Lunasol eyeshadow palettes with the silky gliding finish, Romantic Scene feels almost wet and creamy. The color scheme is just outstanding in my opinion.

However, my first attempt with this seemingly perfect eyeshadow palette was an epic fail. (Surprised?) I couldn't get the burgundy color to look natural on me (it looked like red blobs on my lids) and the colors got all muddy when I tried to blend it out. Disheartened, I tried wearing only the 3 shades without the burgundy. The result was much better and even flattering, but what is the use? It's a moot point without the burgundy, right? I think I wore this quad one more time after that trying to incorporate that pretty but temperamental burgundy. It was a bit better but not at all satisfactory, I recall.

To tell you the truth, I had kind of forgotten about this quad. Before the pandemic for a while, I barely wore eye makeup. I was quite busy and never had enough time in the morning to put on a full face, but mostly I think I had lost my interest in makeup a bit. Romantic Scene even almost got de-stashed when I was cleaning out my makeups earlier this year. I am glad I kept this quad, though. Having more time in my hand, I have tried this beauty a few more times and I think I finally figured it out.

I have used a few different brushes and placements (for example, the shimmery taupe works better when worn along the lower lash line or as a lid shade). I find a light luminous base makeup is better and the recently acquired sheer matte burgundy lipstick goes well with the look.

I understand some people don't wear any makeup during this lockdown period, which makes a lot of sense in a practical view. I myself am trying to wear makeup often if not every day because it does give me a sense of normalcy. It’s the whole “getting ready” routine that keeps me sane and more productive. I also find it more enjoyable now that I experiment with color placements and play with different application techniques. Learning some new tricks and rediscovering a misunderstood makeup such as Romantic Scene is certainly a big part of the joy.

Thanks for being here. I wish you a peaceful long weekend.

  1. It's a shame that you struggled with the burgundy shade at the beginning as I feel like it is definitely the stand out colour on the palette. Are you wearing the shade in the below pictures? I think burgundy really complements dark eyes, I'm really fair skinned with grey eyes and I tried it once and I looked like I hadn't slept in a week.

I wear make up when I go out to the shops. I don't so much when I am at home unless I want to experiment with a new make up look, although I am trying to do more facemasks and self care :).

    1. I usually struggle with warm reddish colors including burgundy or at least I used to. Iike you said, these can make me look pale and sickly even and they are not always easy to blend out because of the strong pigment. I have finally figured out how to appreciate this quad and yes, I'm wearing all 4 shades in the look. I'm quite please with the result. I sometimes wear blue/grey contacts with burgundy to make a big color contrast in the look. I'm imagining the right shade of burgundy would look strikingly beautiful with your colorings, though! :)

  2. Looks so gorgeous! I haven't tried Lunasol eyeshadow palettes, this one looks like a chocolate bar although there is a hint of blue-grey. Very unique and pretty. I need to try more from the brand. I think I've only had a lip gloss?

    1. It's a beautiful palette. Lunasol also has "chocolate bar" themed eyeshadow collections and I've wanted it as well. They probably have the same texture as this one, though. I've collected quite a few Lunasol eyeshadow palettes before I started on Suqqu. They are like sisters. Lunasol tends to offer more youthful and shimmery colors but nowadays I don't know anymore. Their skin modeling foundation is also great. Nowadays I just go for Suqqu because it's easier for me to buy them than Lunasol. With markups, Lunasol easily gets more expensive than Suqqu.
