NOTD | Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish Wearing Hue?

I am still searching for that "perfect summer white" polish but if I don't, I should be just fine with Essie Gel Couture Wearing Hue?. It looks decidedly pink from the picture, but in real life, it is an opaque white color blushed with champagne shimmer.

Some of you know that I dismissed and even made fun of this new range from Essie. I still think the bottle shape is impractical and I can't fully get on with the wider brush. Having said all that, I have to tell you that now I own 5 Gel Couture nail polishes and 2 bottles of Gel Couture Top Coat.

Essie Gel Couture Top Coat & Wearing Hue?

The formula is very consistent from what I've tried so far (sheer creme, sheer shimmer, gel-creme, and opaque shimmer) and it does seem to provide long wears especially when paired with the Gel Couture Top Coat. Both nail polish and top coat are priced at $11.49 which is a fair price in my opinion, but you can also find value combos ($18.49 on target.com).

(See? It's more white than pink.)

Without the top coat, Wearing Hue? dries to a semi-matte finish that I also find chic in a way, but it's the top coat what makes that "gel-like" finish. It is not as fast drying as Seche Vite (still pretty fast, though) but the shine lasts longer without dulling.

I love the crisp color contrast that does not alienate my own skin unlike some of the opaque white polishes. Thanks to the subtle shimmer and the overall excellent formulation, it is quite easy to apply as well. If you're looking for a wearable white polish, do give Essie Wearing Hue? a try.

Thanks for reading. Wish you a great week ahead!

  1. Oh yes, I am totally digging this nail color! I rarely would paint my nails but pastel or neutral shades are what I like the most and this does seem to be something flattering every skin tone!
I am back after a month long hiatus, hope you’ve been well! Missed reading your posts! :)

    1. Hi, Ankita. Yes, I am all about lights and neutrals in summer although I love wearing deep jewel tones in winter. Light neutrals are low maintenance, too. Glad to hear you're back blogging regularly again. :)

  2. The unwieldy shape of the bottle is a little off putting. I think that's why I've ignored this range but you've gotten some really lovely shades Lena! The subtle shimmer is really pretty and this color is a nice one for the summer :) I recently picked up Smith & Cult's Peaceful Paranoia which I'm loving on my toes.

    1. These take up too much space to store, but I like having some of the classic Essie shades in a long lasting formulation. I really like the top coat and will continue to repurchase as it works well with different polishes. Peaceful Paranoia is like the very best of subtle shimmer and I love the bottle shape. I was looking at a set that has Peaceful Paranoia the other day. ;p

  3. The bottles really are quite pretty, though impractical!
I love the color on you - it's so soft and flattering! I would most definitely reach for this as a neutral for a subtle pop of color.

    1. Thanks! I don't wear too many opaque shades because they could look harsh against human skin, but I find Wearing Hue? looks flattering without loosing that crisp contrast. :)

  4. What pretty photos! I love the shade as it's a bit more unique than a baby pink!

  5. Although I really adore these shades, the bottle shapes would drive me bonkers. I have the nail varnishes stacked in my acrylic containers and I don't think aesthetically it would go well. I know that sounds mad but I am pretty type A when it comes to order, haha. Thanks for sharing, they're lovely on you. I am on the search for a nice bright white colour though. /Madison

    1. Exactly. It is worse for me because I usually put the bottle between my knees when I paint (truth) and it isn't comfortable because of the edges. LOL. Do let me know if you find a great easy-to-apply white polish. I'd want one for myself as well! :)
