Collective | Orange Makeup

One of the most remarkable things in my makeup life in 2015 (oh boy, that sounds too much) is that I have ventured into the out-of-comfort color realm (aka orange) and started feeling somewhat comfortable over there too. I would be in denial if I said orange looked better on me than cool-toned pink and red, but I do enjoy this passionate and perky color group and have been wearing something orange regularly.
As a result, I have acquired quite a few orange makeup items. It is a relatively(!) smaller collection, but is rather complete and even perfect to my own eyes.
Some of them deserve full reviews which will come hopefully soon. Today I will show all of them together, because it's Friday and looking at orange makeup is fun.

[Orange Lipstick]

(Sorry, the swatches are bit out of order.)

1. Chanel Rouge Coco 416 Coco is the first real orange thing I bought (I made a big deal of of it here). The formula is light yet creamy and moisturizing. This orange has very fine (almost invisible) shimmer with some red undertones and appears semi-glossy on, which makes it wearable for most people.
2. NARS Semi Matte Lipstick Heat Wave is an amazingly beautiful orange red that really stands out. The matte formula is awesome as well. I will review this in depth soon.
3. Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Color Valencia Orange is a gift from Liz (Jamilla Camel). She thought I should wear more orange! ;D Valencia Orange is a medium matte orange with a bit of terracotta undertones that turns redder on my lips. It is a very unique color in my collection.
4. L'Oreal Colour Caresse Lipstick Fiery Veil was an awesome find from a discount store in downtown. I have mixed thoughts on the range (which seems to be discontinued) but this particular orange is glossier and juicier than other shades I've tried. I love it even more since I only paid $3 for it.

[Orange Gloss & Tint]

1. Revlon Moisture Stain Miami Fever is a hot orange stain. I like this range and have a few more colors but never thought this sizzling orange would become my favorite.
2. PeriPera Peri's Tint Water Orange Juice is probably the most orange thing I own. I reviewed it here and did a full face with it here.
3. Maybelline Color Elixir Citrus Evolution is an LE from some spring collection, and is another discount store find at $2. It is a creamy yellow peach with no shimmer and its nice formulation is indeed similar to L'Oreal Extraordinaire. Unfortunately, my weird nose prefers the L'Oreal scent (both are strongly and unnecessarily fragranced, by the way), so I won't grab more of the Maybelline.

[Orange Blush]

(My orange blush collection reflects the serendipities from awesome blogsales.)

1. M.A.C. Powder Blush Honey Jasmine is a hard-to-find LE shade from Larie (Eye Heart It)'s blogsale. It is a golden orange with a matte texture and maintains a great clarity when applied. You can find my full review here.
2. Chanel Joues Contraste Canaille is from Liz (Beauty Reductionista)'s blogsale page, and it just arrived with perfect timing for this post. (The blogsale is still going on and you should check it out.) Honestly I wasn't so sure about this burnt orange blush, but it is undeniably beautiful. Canaille is deeply pigmented and has the most gorgeous satin finish.
3. Revlon Cream Blush Coral Reef is slightly out of place since it is a coral, but it feels right to include it since the color shows up decidedly orange-y on my cheeks. It is very easy to blend out for a natural look but isn't all that long lasting. I will review this and the other color, Flushed later (it's hard to say "soon" at this point).

[Orange Nail Polish]

I only have two and don't feel the need of getting more. Both have red undertones and gel-creme finish, which is why they are very flattering and wearable.
1. Butter London Nail Lacquer Ladybird is a orange red, and 2. Revlon Nail Enamel Provocative is a reddish orange, and I'm appreciating the difference.
You can find NOTD and comparison posts here and here.

Hope you enjoyed this collective post.
Happy weekend, everyone! :)

  1. Nice orange collection! I don't own a lot of orange either, it really clashes a lot on me. But I have a Clinique Matte lipstick that I really like and it's orange! It's all about the tone I guess!

    1. Thanks, Tracy! I'm quite happy with my orange things, and this is really enough for me at least for now.
Orange, peach and coral age me, which is another reason I've been hesitant to wear them. I think "tangerine" works for me, though! :)

  2. I love color stories like this. This is a such well-edited collection of oranges! My favorites would have to be the Chanel Rouge Coco in Coco (fun to say) and the MAC Honey Jasmine blush. The orange tint water from Peripera I'll definitely have to add to my collection. You wear orange well!

    1. I usually just buy safe colors when it comes to higher-end lipsticks (because I gotta get my money worth, right..?), but I'm glad I took a chance and went for Coco (416)! It is really unique and sophisticated shade.
Honey Jasmine is another lucky find. I didn't even know it was going tripled on eBay at the time I got it! Peri's tint is a bit drying by nature but is great for what it is. I'd want to try their Tint Milk for the sake of those cute illustrations! ;D

  3. Hi Lena, hahaha I feel you! I don't really like orange as color, but I'm sure I have more orange themed make up items in my collection than I thought. Orange lipsticks are special, and can't wash my complexion out sometimes. But I do have some orange lipsticks I use often e.g Tom Ford Wild Ginger or Etude House Rosy Lip Tint in ( I forgot the number xD ). Orange blushes and nail polishes are present in my collection too ^^

    1. I know you usually go for red and burgundy, but I can see you wearing orange beautifully as well! TF Wild Ginger is am awesome color on you. To me, medium yellow toned orange colors are the most difficult ones to pull off. I guess same goes for stark kelly green, for example. But it's great we can play with different tones and textures and make certain colors wearable for us. :)

  4. I wanted to pick up Heat Wave the other day but I ended up with Fanny because it was more Autumn appropriate and looking at the swatch, I'm really regretting it. I have yet to try Revlon cream blusher, I know it must be good as Lisa Eldridge recommends it too. Two things I'm planning to buy after reading this post, Revlon cream blusher and Moisture Stain, can't believe I have yet to try both until today.

    1. Hi Shreen! :) I just googled up Fanny, and my that is a gorgeous purple berry! I'm not a big fan of the Audacious range itself, but that's just me since I prefer sheer lipsticks by much. I thought NARS soft matte lipstick would be drying but it isn't at all. And Heat Wave is certainly worth having if not for everyday color.
I also got the cream blushes for the second time after watching Ms. Eldridge's video. While I like them very much (and I got them on sale, too), but I must say there are better cream blush options out there. ;)

  5. Ooh, I'm all about oranges! I have Heat Wave and it really is a perfect orange red lipstick. You're tempting me with Miami Forever too :)

    1. Heat Wave is really gorgeous, isn't it? Not a color I'd normally go for, but I love it! And I'm sure Miami Fever would look beautiful on you, Jen. :)

  6. Heat wave is really beautiful. I am also trying to get used to orange, right now loving Guerlain Orange Fizz. Does Canaille blush work on you? On me it looks like I burned my skin :-(

    1. Ooooh, Orange Fizz is gorgeous! *must resist* ;D
I just swatched Canaille for this post and wore it in the later evening for the first time. While it looks and swatches a burnt orange, it is a gorgeous deep amber on my cheeks to my big surprise! I will cover this soon. :)

    2. I have to take out Canaille again and try it. I used it like 1-2 times and I was horrified but maybe it was the brush or I didn't know how to blend it properly or combine it properly back then.

      Delete
    3. I believe Canaille requires a certain type of brush and a careful light hand since it is so intensely pigmented. It is so even compared to other Chanel blushes I've tried. But the color is gorgeous that I wouldn't mind so much. Let me know how it works for you! :)

  7. Some seriously bold and stunning shades you got there Lena! I'm not a fan of oranges though, never have been but recently I've been getting into peaches for the cheeks. I seriously am in love with your Chanel blush, love that kind of warm earth tone!

    1. I hear you! And you wear pink, plum and berries so well! Peachy blushes with a bit of pink undertones are the easiest ones to pull off. I think I started from there as well.
And I definitely agree with you. I only have 3 Chanel blushes currently which were all from blogsales (I did use one up a very long time ago. Haha), and they are amazing!

  10. I'm glad you're loving that blush! I still have two (or three???) orange blushes, so dude, it's getting better lovin' over there with you. BB Valencia Orange looks like a great shade that's kind of unique, no? But man, I'm in a berry phase now...I think we've switched :P

    1. Haha, I think you're right. I will just jump right into dark vamp lip colors later on but it looks like I will skip the transitional berry phase this year. ;D
Valencia Orange IS very unique! On lips the color appears very complex. This is another shade I'd have never put my hands on if not for a friend's help. I've been wearing this with blue eyeliners. :)

  11. Oranges look good on you Lena and what a pretty collection! Valencia Orange though. I WANT THAT! I love Bobbi Brown's creamy matte lip colors, and I've been wondering if there's anything else I'd want to add. Looking at the swatch, this will be something totally unique in my stash. Worth going against my decluttering, I think. Hehe :-)

    1. Thank you, Lily! Valencia Orange is definite worth considering especially if you already like the formula! I agree BB creamy matte is great. :)
I think I'm going through my kind of decluttering and will be showcasing what stays in my collection. This is a great reminder both - "I have enough pretty things + Oh, I think this is missing from my collection."
Some decluttering does lead to a new purchase, I'm afraid! ;D

  12. Nice collection. I love reading color-themed makeup collection posts :) Really help in seeing what you got in your collection. I don't have too much orange in mine. The closest I got is some coral blushes and lipsticks.

    1. Thanks! I'm encouraged that I would do collective posts like this a bit more often. ;D
I couldn't agree with you more. I've gone through my stash and grouped things in colors. This has helped me a lot although I didn't get rid of too many things. :)

It is just difficult to break out of the makeup habits sometimes. Then my face is constantly changing and all, I've finally decided to be adventurous for once. :)

  14. Nice collection, I don't do oranges well though do have a few in my collection. I love the look of the revlon blush, think I could get away with that one :)

I think you wear refined peaches with softer hues so beautifully, though. Maybe oranges are not too difficult for you.
I honestly didn't expect to like the Coral Reef, but it is very natural and pretty once applied on cheeks. :D

  15. I do enjoy orange - I think it generally flatters Asian skin tones and it's a bit left of field but not too "unwearable", especially since there are so many options available. Orange lips are always fun to sport in summer - I remember Lisa Eldridge did a video about them based upon a Keira Knightley look she did for an event. NARS Heat Wave looks so stunning!

    1. I wish I was more openminded and embraced the fact there are many different tones in "orange" and different finish also weighs in how I wear a certain shade. I still find yellow toned orange (as in orange crayons) very difficult to wear (especially on my nails), but now I feel much comfortable towards "tangerines".
I should look for the video soon! This fall, reddish orange would be my transitional shade, not the usual berries. :)

  16. I've not yet ventured into the realm of orange makeup, but I love how bright everything looks! I think coral is more up my alley, especially in terms of blush. I'd love to see some makeup looks incorporating these products! (:

    1. Hi, Angelina :)
Coral is my cheat color as teal is for green. I think added pink makes things much easier to pull off, but as you see here, I got a little adventurous!
I've already showcased a few looks on the blog, and I am looking to do some more in the future!

Orange and Yellow will forever be two of my top favorite colors so this was a wonderful post :)

I will definitely do more looks and list the makeup products used as well. However, these color are quite attention-grabbing by themselves, so I usually go with minimal looks. :)

I think these lip colors would look very pretty if played carefully with minimal makeup, though. Love seeing deep orange with blue eyes! :)

  19. I bought a powdery straight-up orange blush a month ago (just so that I can wear it in fall) and also bought a cargo laguna after swatching it for like 68 times in Duane Reade...I totally went crazy for orange back in 2011or so, now I advanced to orange eyeshadow(I blame my new found interest in jaundice/eye infection on korean k-pop girls/I don't even listen to kpop ...) I am still researching so far but the hoarding shall begin when it gets sunny again.

    1. I didn't know Duane Reade carries Cargo! Cargo is actually my first blush brand love. I should check out the big DR location on the block.
I still laugh at those orange eyeshadow looks but since I'm losing volumes on my eyes (another unwelcome sign of aging), I might give this a try maybe using an apricot shade. Hopefully, it would make my eyes look swollen hence the effect! LOL
