Tatcha Kyoto Red Silk Lipstick

Tatcha Kyoto Red Silk Lipstick

After a long wait, the most gorgeous red lipstick made its way home to me.
Tatcha Kyoto Red Silk Lipstick is rather imperial. It is perfect inside and out.
Since this is a limited edition and my understanding is that only a small number of them were produced, you might want to grab one before it's too late. It is still available online.

It is $55 a piece (a very heavy piece or art, by the way), but let me just say this is much nicer than any high-end lipstick I've ever experienced. I didn't even have to justify my purchase. This lipstick makes me happy.

I won't say much because what Tatcha says about this amazing lipstick is true to every word - feather-light, long lasting, pigmented, and flattering.

I had been on the early notification list for more than 2 months and started wondering what was taking too long. The wait was well worthwhile. :)

Honestly, I never spent this much on a single lipstick. I almost bought a Tom Ford Cherry Rush lipstick once, though. Tatcha is nicer by much. So no regret what so ever. ;)

  3. EEEEEE, it's so pretty! I'm so tempted, but we just bought a car and I have to move and I really, really cannot. BUT IT'S SO STUNNING. Definitely a gorgeous shade, and definitely perfect on you! You need to wear more of these reds, Lena!

    1. Hey, a car and moving are priorities. I hope Tatcha slowly rolls out more makeup items since now I have a completely confidence they would be wonderful. (Or maybe I don't..what would happen to my wallet..? LOL)
Kyoto Red is a matte lipstick with a very soft sheen and lasts forever. Perfect since I'm getting into matte lipsticks lately. :)

  5. omg very very tempting. i was sort of following the 'buying' via twitter and honestly the facet cut on the lipstick and the packing makes this so appealing. must resist!

  6. I scrolled down too quickly and got scared by that postcard... Well, I am pretty sure the formula is wonderful if so many of the reviews said the same thing. I think I would be totally interested if they start doing cheek tint(I don't wear bold straight red so I will just admire the pictures online).

Ps, I got Revlon Sultry Samba after seeing it on sale, still haven't touch it though(as I have so many new toys to go through).

    1. LOL, Mina. ;D
I agree with you. I'd love to see a classic cheek tint and maybe some powder from the brand, rather than more lipsticks.
I am just getting into bold lip colors and don't like super pigmented lipsticks in general, but this lipstick somehow works. That is kind of huge because I never thought I'd find a pigmented matte lipstick so wearable. I was prepared to have this as a collector's item but I am glad I can wear it often, too. :)

And yay for Sultry Samba! I totally get what you mean, though. Same situation here. I feel a little bad (well, not really) about constantly blogging about lippies, but what can I do? ;p

I had a high expectation for Tatcha's first lipstick because I have high respect for the brand. It turned out to be better than my expectation, actually. Very happy! :)

  9. Wow the packaging of it is so luxurious and pristine! The color looks gorgeous though but I prefer pinks/purples to reds.

    1. The lipstick case is very weighty and top notch. The whole brand is inspired by the Geisha's beauty, so a red lipstick was in order. Maybe we would see more colors in the future. :)

  10. Oh Lena, it is so so so beautiful!! Looks very nice on you ^^
I have just checked on tatcha website but intl shipping costs $35 :((( which makes the lipstick cost $90 in total and I just can't justify the purchase at such a high price :/
The packaging is so luxurious though! Tatcha is a brand I've been wanting to try the most. I wish Sephora US will carry more tatcha products on their website..

And I totally understand. What you said is sensible. If you know the products already and buy other skincare items with the lipstick, maybe.. I hope to see more items on Sephora as well. :)

  13. Gosh, this IS truly a beautiful red. I am sorely sorely tempted, but I don't wear reds all that often to justify this. But.... but... it is so darn pretty and so pretty on you, Lena!

I think this will look beautiful on you as well. Kyoto Red is a very bright red but it feels surprisingly natural wearing it. I usually dismiss "universally flattering" claim, but in this case it must be true. :)

  14. This color looks oh so pretty on you!! Does it leave your lips dry? I always seem to have that problem with lipsticks high-end or drug store. :( Tatcha is currently my favorite skincare line and I am absolutely in love with their products and it makes me believe this lipstick is probably the best! Even though I tend to stick to neutrals your review makes me want to purchase and wear it daily even if only around the house!! Lol :)

    1. Thank you so much! :)
This lipstick is very very kind to my lips. It is almost shocking because it has a semi-matte finish and is very very long lasting. Kyoto Red is definitely the most comfortable lipstick with full coverage that I've ever put on my lips.
The color itself is striking but not in a gaudy way or anything like that. I'd love to hear others' opinions on the color, but personally I'm in love with it. :)

  15. Stunning! Just such a truly stunning piece! Love how the bullet is built and the box you receive it in looks like a master piece! That red is so gorgeous, I think of Japanese Geishas and they're perfect red lips!

    1. Exactly. According to Tatcha, it is the classic Geisha red perfected in the modern formulation, with which I have to wholeheartedly agree! Actually every skincare item comes in a beautiful box like this one. It makes me feel special every time. :)

  17. I absolutely died when I saw this on your Twitter the other day. It's such a beautiful shade and the packaging - oh *dies*! It doesn't even look semi-matte on you - it actually looks quite creamy.

You always seem to wear reds so well but this one is just perfect on you! It makes you look so elegant and glamourous.

I still feel a little conscious about wearing red lips in general, but Kyoto Red makes me feel confident and surprisingly comfortable despite of its bright color. Mysteriously amazing, I think!
It is not as matte as MAC Ruby Woo, for example, but is definitely on the matte side. I think the silk in the lipstick makes a huge difference in comfort, too. :)
