Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick 110

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick 110

I wish I liked this humbly priced drugstore lipstick a bit better, because the color is stunning. Some even say it is a nice alternative to MAC Lady Danger
Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick in 110 is a gorgeous orange tinged red that turns heads. The formula, however, leaves much to be desired. It does not seem much different from the matte lipsticks I experienced 10 years ago - thick, dry, and crackly in the end.

The bold lipstick tube with a matte finish is actually quite nice for something that's under $5.

I will say it again. This orange red (with a tiny bit of pink thrown in) is gorgeous.

Revlon Ravishing NOTD
I liked the color so much that I even bought a matching nail color from Revlon. *sighs*

I have to work a little hard with this lipstick since it does not glide like Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet (reviewed here) nor does it feel light as Revlon Super Lustrous Matte (reviewed here).

It is nicely pigmented, but it doesn't play favorably with the relatively thick and dry formula. In full strength, the color looks almost foreign to my complexion that it makes me feel uncomfortable looking at myself in the mirror...

It turns out I have a few other colors that are similar but in different finish and opacity.
Revlon Fire & Ice still is the most difficult shade to pull off.
Revlon Red Lacquer would be an easy choice and can be worn on top of the Rimmel to ease the uncomfortable sensation. (But, what's the point then?)

Here is the best I could do with Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss 110.
After blotting and blending, the color seems to work if I could ignore the dry finish. (I can't.)

Have you had similar experience? Loving the color but not the formula?
Do you have a better suggestion for this pretty orange red?

  1. Hmm, interesting. I had a great experience with these lipsticks so I guess it depends on person.

    1. Fire & Ice is really a gorgeous color as well. I can never wear in full strength but love using it as a stain. :)

  3. Eh, the texture sounds terrible. I never have patience for that kind of thing. I mean, the MAC mattes are dry, too, but not *so* terrible. Maybe I'm just kidding myself, hahaha. You could wear gloss over it! Like those otherwise useless Lancome tubes! Of course, that defeats the matte finish, but maybe it would help you get used to the color.

    1. Rimmel has more than a few iconic colors out (like the Fairykiss) but I have never found the formula wearable. This one isn't so bad, but the original Lasting Finish has a very synthetic fruity kind of scent as well. :$
It would be better to find a dupe in better formula than trying to make this work. Like you, I have have patience. Heck, I don't even like reapplying lippies. ;p

    2. ditto. terrible dry sounding texture. There are rich mattes, but then there are lip-dessicating mattes. congratulates Rimmel! You've just mastered the latter!

    3. At least now I know a few matte formulas that work for me. It's not that I want to collect all the mattes in the world. I just want a few that are wearable. I wonder if Rimmel actually use lesser quality ingredients although I usually think differently about drugstore lippies. ;-/

  4. I think aside from a shimmery gray, every lipstick (liquid lip color) from Rimmel are slippery, drying and never stays inside my lips. I have shade 109 in this exact formula and it's actually the best of all (well, that shimmery gray one was smooth but I mean the normal colored ones), I like the shade enough to/actually I love it, keep it rolling around for two years but I was also looking at other options.

    1. They have a shimmery gray??! ;D 109 is a pretty color, too! (Just googled it) I guess the formula is inconsistent, then. I can't really complain since I find Chanel lippies have no consistency, either.
Let's hope that we all find better dupes for our beloved shades! :)

    2. Oh, I mean they (all rimmel lippies) are consistently crap, but the red tubed lasting finish by Kate formula is best of all (rimmel), but still crap among drugstores. Since it's better than NYC/wet n wild and not as pricy as maybelline Revlon, I just don't hold the quality against it. The color is great and I am just getting what I pay for.

    3. Oh, I see. Thanks for the clarification! ;)
As the U.S. based drugstore stuff is getting pricier, my attention was redirected to Japanese drugstore again. I know nowadays a lot of people seem to love Korean brands but I honestly don't see the appeal.

  5. That's a shame about the formula. I always look at these Kate x Rimmel lipsticks but never really want to fork over the change in the end. If you want a creamy dupe of MAC Lady Danger, Hourglass Raven is close (but I know you don't like the brand, lol). A lot more expensive dupe is a liquid lipstick from Armani (the ones with the red caps). I forget the exact shade name/number but once it sets, they're pretty much the same. I have a dusty rose shade from that range and love it. You should check it out. ;)

    1. LOL, Liz. It's funny (and endearing) that you remember my brand preference! ^-^
I find myself not reaching for anything often if the formula sucks no matter how pretty the color is..so I wouldn't mind investing in higher-end ones with better formulation. I will just have to buy fewer.... *sniffles*
I will definitely check out the GA one. Thanks for the recs! :)

  7. Oh dear, that would totally not be for me either! I can't stand anything that's the least bit drying! The color is a darling and that polish is definitely a keeper! I've been wanting to try a nude shade from the rimmel by kate but for a few years now just keep on skipping out on the chance of ordering it online! Thanks for the review! Do stop by my blog, I'm holding a giveaway! :)

    1. I know some of the glossy sheer ones end up drying my lips, but boy, this one is on a whole different level of dryness!
I think you're talking about the Fairykiss, which is like a bible for pale nude pink. I had that but hated the formula as well. Maybe our money should be spent elsewhere. ;)
Thanks for the invitation. I don't enter giveaways that often lately, but definitely would love to check it out. <3

  8. I love the color, Lena. It's really a pity the formula is so dry! For orangey lipsticks, I quite like the Urban Decay Sheer Revolution in Sheer Slowburn. Have you tried any of those?

    1. Thanks for the rec, Lily! I actually haven't experienced the range but have heard good things from fellow bloggers (including your reviews). To be honest, I'm set with my current matte stash so maybe I will look for other formulations like sheer lipsticks and tints. :)

  9. Ah you don't like the formula, the color looks very nice on you though :)
I personally really like this range and have 110 and 111 shades which both I dearly like. Yes they are a bit drying but nothing I can't handle ^^

    1. Now I have a doubt my tube isn't the greatest! Or I am just not used to matte lipstick. The fact I've tried better formulations first didn't help, either. ;)
I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the range, though. The colors are really gorgeous!

  10. The color is gorgeous, and I love that it inspired a matching nail polish situation. I have definitely had plenty of experiences of loving the shade but not the formula. I remember buying Fire & Ice a year or two ago after seeing it online and WOW can I *not* pull that one off!

    1. Yeah, Fire & Ice is like...a unicorn. I can only wear it as a stain, which kind of brings me to the conclusion that I don't need to bother with this. I can just wear Fire & Ice and blot a heck off it so it looks matte!
