Review - Beauty Box 5 October 2013

November 10, 2013

I have just discovered this is October box.
I thought it was November because that was what they told me then I got another box shortly after which was the November's!

Beauty Box 5 (BB5) is a monthly subscription service that delivers 5 cosmetic samples to your door for $12 a month.
I received the November box as a part of their Blogger Review Program.

Beauty Box 5

A compact "Tiffany blue" color schemed box was delivered in the first week of November, and here are the things I received in it.

A card with descriptions of the products as well as the price for each item (if a full size) is included.
from L to R
La Fresh Travel Lite Facial Cleansing Wipes (8 count)
Nubar Alter Ego Nail Lacquer Blondie (mini)
Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion (mini, 1 oz)
Swissco Glitter Toe Separators (one size)
Model Co Illusion Lip Pencil (full size)

1.La Fresh Travel Lite Cleansing Wipes
I don't use wipes on a daily basis so I was more interested in seeing if this would really serve for the purpose - convenience for travel.
The lightly scented wipes are decent size and moistened enough.
I was pleasantly surprised to see it does remove both regular and waterproof mascaras without irritating my eyes.
I think I like this wipes but I am not sure if I would want to purchase the full-sized ones for $19.99 (48 count).
However, I would purchase the sample size in emergency.

2. Nubar Alter Ego Nail Lacquer Blondie
Nubar is one of those brands I've been interested in trying but never got around to, so I was happy to see this little cutie.

I think Blondie would work nicely for a "peachy nude glitter" mani but also perfect for accent mani so I tried one with it.

3. Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion
I have used up many full sized tubes of this lotion and I even buy the same mini bottle to use as an emergency hand cream sometimes.
I am just not sure if I want to receive something like this in the monthly subscription box.
Maybe I feel underwhelmed by it because I already know the product very well?

4. Swissco Glitter Toe Separators
These are the least favorites of the bunch.
First of all, I do not use toe separators.
As cute as they sound - the glittered toe separators that will be twinkling on your toes, I know they will most likely leave glitters on your toes (and between them) as they did it on my fingers.
A filler.

5. Model Co Illusion Lip Pencil
This is a full sized lip pencil with a sharpener attached.
This is supposed to be defining the lips as well as keeping them soft and nourished with cocoa and shea butter.

The pink box and the butt of the pencil is misleading, but the actual color is a pretty nude.
I tried this all over on my lips with a very little expectation (due to its rather plain look and the fact I am not a big fan of lipliners), but once again I was surprised.
It does go on very smoothly leaving my lips comfortable and more importantly, it effectively cancels out the lip color and creates the perfect J-Lo nude lip base.
(I will feature this in another post to show you what it does.)
If you are a fan of nude lips and use lipliners to fill in for base, you might want to give this one a try.
The retail price seems a little steep to me, however. ($20)

This is a more affordably priced subscription box and I didn't know what to expect due to my limited experience in this type of service.
It did a nice job introducing new products that I would have not known otherwise, but i was less than thrilled with the box to be honest.
It is a nice value for $12 that includes the shipping, but I guess it is a little hard to get excited with samples since nowadays we are surrounded by GWP items and samples so abundantly.
I understand it is not customized box like some others, it would take a couple more times to really value the service.
I will keep myself openminded and wait for my next box.

Thanks for reading.
