Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Extrême Intense Matte Lip Colour | Épitome

I am going to pretend that I hadn't been missing here for months and months and casually pick up from where I left. Today I will show you another saturated red lipstick that I have been enjoying lately. (Hello again, everyone)

I like Chanel lipsticks in general and Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet is one of the few matte formulations that I actually enjoy wearing (I recently bought the No.5 in this formula and love it). The new Rouge Allure Velvet Extrême is a true matte formula compared to the Rouge Allure Velvet's "luminous matte" finish, and Chanel describes that it "pushes the boundaries of matte" with this new offering. If pushing boundaries means a more matte formula with a thicker texture, I agree.

I admit that I am not entirely happy with the formula itself. I am not a big fan of true matte lip colors although I want to play along with the current makeup trends, is one thing. It's probably also because I bought a lipstick that offers a similar saturated finish with a much better texture. To be fair, Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Extrême isn't a half bad lipstick. It does feel creamy upon application with great lasting power.

As you probably guessed, the color Épitome kind of makes everything right - it is a beautiful pink-red with berry hues that is youthful and sophisticated at the same time. It brightens up my complexion like nobody's business. Then again, I have Chanel Rouge Allure Palpitante (which, by the way, is yet to be reviewed) that does the same without the thickish feel on the lips.

Blotted once (which is how I always wear this lipstick anyway)

Here is an overall look with Épitome.

I love the color so much and I wear this fairly often. I even got a backup, but now I am not sure if that was a smart move because I haven't made a dent in my first one even after months of use. This might pop up in my next blog sale.

Bottom line awesome color with an okay formulation. I still am curious about the lighter colors but I will probably go for a Pat McGrath MatteTrance or another Armani Rouge Matte if I want a high-end matte lipstick.

Have you tried the new Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Extrême? What are your thoughts on them?

  1. Welcome back Lena!!!! The wear on this sounds nice and the shade looks incredible on you! I'm so not up on makeup lately and mattes have always scared me because they have the implication of being dry and I find anything matte to be terribly aging... on me anyway ;p

Hope you've been well. I want to meet up with you for lunch but I need to get some of my health issues cleared up first. Have a wonderful week and stay warm my friend :)

    1. Thanks, Rowena! I have been wearing minimal looks myself lately and actually strong lip colors make things a bit more simple. I agree with you that they haven't invented truly non-drying matte lip colors just yet and I do find them drying!

I just left a comment on your blog but I will say it here again - I'm so glad that the diagnosis isn't serious and you're on your way to a full recovery. HUGS <3

  2. It looks great with your coloring! The word matt alone is enough to scare me away...But I envy people who can carry off the formula.

Speaking of which...I do have a Chanel lipstick I got over two years ago and only wore once. I have been wanting one of their limited eyeshadow but they are usually sold out by the time I heard the raving reviews (got one from permanent range and never wanted to reach for it)

I have a habit of hoarding backup for stuff (no lippie though, the only back up coffret dor lipstick was given away as gift later...but now I miss it).

    1. Hiiiiii, Mina! <3

I think you're talking about the Rouge Coco Shine you didn't love. I stopped buying this range myself as well because unlike the olden days, there are so many good affordable options for that kind. I'm kind of curious about the new Coco Flash but probably will pass. ;D

    2. I actually had (have it's somewhere in my room) another one (that i took the picture but never reviewed) that was rouge Allure with the pushy tube...Their bright shades arent that flattering on me (Dior is a teeny bit better). I might check out the new one with Lily Rose Depp ads but I am not hopeful...

    3. I became to appreciate full color lipsticks more over the past few years so Chanel Rouge Allure is quite good in my book. I still think they could be drying especially if you like glossy natural finishes. Speaking of yet-to-be-reviewed items, I have more than a few of those. *sighs*
