Swatch Set: Etude House Look At My Eyes

Etude House Look At My Eyes Swatches

Happy new year, everyone! A collective swatch post seems most appropriate for the first one in 2017. Wouldn't you agree?

So now thanks to my friend Pauline, I have a bunch of Etude House Look At My Eyes singles (Many of them seem to be discontinued as Etude House is into this kind of marketing, but you can find most of them on eBay).

I actually don't mind having single eyeshadows and even dislike depotting, but this time I knew that I had to do something (well, there were fifteen of them). Etude House offers empty palettes in various sizes that fit these singles perfectly (available on eBay). I initially wanted them but decided against it because I did not want to wait too long to receive them. Domestic options would be the famous Z Palettes and MAC Pro Palette Customize. I opted for the latter which is more affordable ($8) and has clean aesthetics. Personally, I think MAC Pro Palette is priced right and much better quality than those Zs.

Depotting Etude House Look At My Eyes is a breeze - there is a tiny hole on the back of the container and you just need to push gently through it using a safety pin to lift the pan up.  I was quite pleased with the result and even depotted the Urban Decay Diamond Dog (reviewed) as well.

On to the swatches - I have a good mix of light shimmers, blue/grey, mattes, shimmery neutrals, and purples. The official color names are in alphanumerics but they do have fun Korean names, of course. I am including rough translations for those names as well.

1. Light shimmers
PK010 은밀한 케이크 상자 (Secretive cake box)
OR216 파스텔 빛 환상 (Fantasy in pastels)
BK806 부다페스트의 낭만 (Romance in Budapest)
BK805 안개 속 그림자 (Shadow in the mist)
These are so so pretty and perfect for highlighting or blending out.

2. Grey/Blue
BK803 위험천만 야경 사냥 (Dangerous night view hunting)
BL606 충실한 로비 보이 (The faithful lobby boy)

3. Mattes
BK804 향기 없는 머스크 (Scentless musk)
PP505 멜랑꼴리 멜로극 (Melancholy melodrama)
BK807 아찔한 비밀 작전 (A thrilling covert operation)
Love how dusty they are! All shades are buttery soft and go on like a dream.

4. Shimmery neutrals
BR426 빈티지 로모 필름 (Vintage Lomo film) <- this is my favorite!
BE110 아날로그 핑크 (Analogue pink ) <-which is actually a beige color.
BR415 쿨내 나는 명사수 (The cool sniper/Sagittarius)
This set is a bit off and doesn't do a justice to their beauties. These three are my favorites - gorgeously complex and very wearable.

5. Purples
PP510 몽환적인 추리 사건 (Dreamy mystery case)
PP514 3초 공감 물고기 (Forgetful Pisces; edited, the literal translation would be 3 seconds empathetic fish(?))
PP513 우주 최강 인기 사자 (Strongest and Most popular of Leo; edited)

Whew, thanks for scrolling! Hope this swatch set is helpful. I have reviewed 4 of them in my previous post, and my opinion hasn't changed since. I think the quality of them is one of the best within the similar range. Many eBay sellers are offering them at affordable prices ($4-6 each, plus free shipping). I'd say go try a few and see how you like them.

  1. I am not native Korean speaker (duh) but I think it's refering Strongest and Most Popular of Leo and Forgetful Pisces (because the short memory span thing?). The two are from a zodiac collection afterall)?

I might have to go to Koreatown again for that lomo film, I got a glimmering cool brown taupe (etude house eyeshadow) last time and it was so unique and easy to wear by itself.

    1. Oooh, thanks Mina! I never suspected that those Korean names were actually translations. No wonder they didn't make any sense! LOL. You see Leo and Lion are two different things and the Korean version simply means lion. I am editing them, thanks to you! :)

Vintage lomo film is worth owning and I think you'd enjoy a few from the light shimmery ones.

  2. Romance In Budapest is SO PRETTY! They are all very pretty for sure! I think a local supermarket here sells some Etude House. I shall look!

    1. It is very pretty and so easy to wear. What surprises me is that they do not have that cheap eyeshadow characteristics (fading into mirky nothing, you know). Which is why I went through a trouble of making a custom palette.

  3. This is such a nice way to organize your single eyeshadows and keep a bunch of them all in one place. You created quite a pretty palette of colors for yourself there Lena :) $4 - $6 each with free shipping is a really good price too considering your experience with their quality.

    1. I am not a big fan of MAC but really like this customizable palette. It's quite sturdy and look more expensive than $8 for sure. The OCD in me wants to get more singles to fill the palette. LOL

  4. I went to Etude House the other day but why don't I see these? I'll have to take another look. I wonder if we get different things (??)... but planning to go to Korea later this year, so I'll be able to take a closer look then.

    1. It seems Etude keeps discontinuing stuff and pushing out new things (Here in the U.S., Revlon does that a lot). If you spot one, you might as well get one. But I wouldn't go scavenger hunt for this. Plus you just visited HK where I really think is the mecca of cosmetics! When you go to Korea, visit one of the Olive Young stores. You can find pretty much everything there. ;D

    2. Oh thanks for the heads up. Olive Young it is!

  5. I've been looking at these swatches over and over again - cannot contain myself any longer. Your pictures are just TOO tempting, I feel absolutely compelled to order some of these. Amazing swatches!

    1. Haha, thanks, Mimi! ;p I admit some of the shades swatch better than what they are. These are pretty amazing for singles that are under $5 each. Warm shimmery neutrals are definitely worth trying. Maybe order a few but not a lot? I know that you're accustomed to high quality eyeshadows. :)

  6. Did you have to attach magnets to the back of the eye shadows?

    1. Hi! (Sorry for my late reply. I just saw your comment.)

No, there was enough adhesive left on each pan so I didn't have to. The MAC palette is only magnetized on the side (the sales rep told me).
