Samples | Lancôme Shine Lover

I have another post with brief reviews and swatches from sampling
When Lancôme introduced this sheer lipstick range, I was excited and almost sure that I'd get at least a few. Sheer lipstick with shine seems to be a thing for which I tend to open my wallet easily these days, but this time the sampling didn't lead me to an immediate purchase. It rather held me back.
I have mentally placed Lancôme Shine Lovers on the "maybe list" because I still think they are very nice. Maybe it is due to the fact that my impression is gathered merely from a sample packet with a tiny lip brush, which I suppose substantially differs from actually swiping a lipstick on the lips.

I can't really fault Lancôme or the sample itself. It includes a great selection of colors that would appeal to many people. It even comes with a small lip brush if that counts at all.

I liked:
The colors - they are pretty, vibrant, and wearable.
The formula - it feels moderately hydrating and weightless on the lips.
The packaging - the tube looks simple, sleek, and functional.

I didn't like:
The scent - it is scented with the same fragrance as the Lip Lover range, which I'm not so crazy about. Some people do like it, and it isn't a strong scent, though.
The hydration claim - it is there, but not for 8 hours. I mean, it has to stay on for longer than a few hours for us to talk about 8 hour something, no?

The finish is pretty but I don't love it. It gives a subtle kind of "shine" that is similar to many other sheer lipsticks like Dior Addict, Chanel Rouge Coco Shine, and NARS Sheer Lipstick.

Now, on to the swatches.

Lancome Shine Lover swatches

Lancome Shine Lover Inattendue swatch
Inattendue is a soft peachy pink. There is nothing "unexpected" about it although it pulls a bit pinker on my lips.

Lancome Shine Lover Fuchsia In Paris swatch
Fuchsia In Paris is a very pretty fuchsia with deeper undertones which makes the color easily wearable. Unfortunately, I already have too many of similar shades and a few even come in better formulas than Shine Lover's. You can see this color in context here.

Lancome Shine Lover French Sourire
French Sourire is the star shade of the range. It is a vibrant medium pink with a nice dose of warmth. I might want this in the future.

Hope this was helpful.
I find the range has quite a few interesting shades, especially the pinks. The $25 price tag is certainly modest especially when a NARS Sheer Lipstick is now pushing $30.

Have you tried these? What are your thoughts on them?

  1. This sample set is pretty cute and the little lip brush is a nice touch. French Sourire is definitely the standout shade of the three and it looks amazing on you Lena! I haven't purchased any Lancome products in awhile because I can't stand that they put scent in everything and some scents just give me a headache O_o Happy weekend lady! Stay cool :)

    1. I agree although I wished the brush had been more useful. Still it is a nice touch!
The pinks in the range look especially nice and even unique to my eyes. I don't know why, but this particular scent kinda smells medicine-y to my nose. But it isn't strong as some of other Lancome stuff. Really, they literally need to lighten up! ;D

Wow they are so much more expensive here! I have one and it's ok. I agree the pinks are the way to go.

    1. Oh? The main virtue of Lancome makeup is the price in my view. It is quite affordably priced although the skincare price is rather high. This price difference and what we have available or not in the U.S. and Canada is ridiculous!

  3. OOO Fuchsia in Paris is stunning! I swatched one a while ago and it's interesting in a way that it's translucent, the texture really clings onto the skin, and the pigment actually stays! In a way it kinda reminds me of MAC Huggable, which also wears very close to the lips if that makes sense.

    1. I have yet to try MAC Huggable, but I think I understand what you mean. I really like the light texture of this. The formula adheres pretty well and even stains a bit, which are all good in my book! :)

  4. Wow to Fuchsia In Paris, I definitely need it. I love your lipswatches, they may make me buy everything you show!

    1. Fuchsia In Paris would look beautiful on you, although I suspect you have more than a few similar lippies in your stash. Always happy to enable the fellow bloggers! ;D

  5. They're pretty, but if I get a sheer lipstick I want it to feel comfortable and lovely, haha! These three also seem pretty cool toned. I like my pale pinks to be warm, or else I look ridiculous, but lately I feel like I don't have nearly enough work-safe soft pinks! I was going to maybe look at these, but now you've convinced me that again, I should just go back to Dior...LOL. I'm not sure if that was a favor or not, Lena :P

    1. They are not uncomfortable. I think they are at least slightly better than the Rouge Coco Shine. LOL. I think I would have liked it a little better if I had applied it from the bullet. I still prefer Dior Addict myself. It isn't a bad idea to buy a great color from the range you know and love! It seems the Addict will be reformulated as well. Maybe you want to get one before? ;p

  6. Thanks for the review, Lena! This lipstick is actually on my list. I swatched them on a whim when I was at Changi airport, but I didn't have more time to buy it or do more swatching.. I remember I liked the texture, well as sheer lipstick is my cup of tea anyway ^^
Inattendue is so pretty! I might want to get that shade, or French Soirire , or both! LOL.
Too bad they're not really moisturizing..

    1. My pleasure, Pam! I think this is a nice range, better than decent! I like the price, too. ;)
And the colors offered are quite nice and unique covering the whole spectrum. Let us know how you like it if you try a few. :)

  7. good that I read your post as I totally forgot about the sample I got and now you got me want to try them. Inattendue is so pretty.I love sheer lipsticks and if these are a bit moisturizing, it would be perfect.

    1. I think Inattendue is so you! I think this was a good sample packet. I usually struggle even open sample packets. I actually felt like using it although I only tried them a few times each. ;)

  8. I love that they included a tiny brush with the samples! I only have one Dior Addict sheer lipstick, but I wasn't a fan. Still, these colors are so pretty, I might give sheer lipsticks a try again!

    1. Sounds like you don't really like sheer lipsticks in general. I think you'd like Dior Addict Extreme, which gives more color and definition and is quite pampering on lips! :)

  9. So cool, I've never seen a lip sample kit like that. Based on the colour in the sample pack, I thought French Sourire would be for me, but goodness is Fuchsia In Paris ever beautiful!

    1. I've seen some Japanese/Korean lip samples like this, and I'm glad to see something like this from Lancome. The pink colors from the range really stand out. Do let us know if you pick one up for yourself! :)

  10. All of them look good on you, Lena. I think it's due to the shape of your lips, not the lipstick itself. LOL LOL!

    1. Haha, thank you Lily! ;D
This is rather nice, but I think I expected maybe too much. 8 hr claim is ridiculous but at least it didn't dry out my lips badly or anything. (These claims and numbers..grrrrr)

  11. 8 hours! Bless their hearts! That's just crazy talk for a sheer lipstick formula, but I'm glad they're hydrating. I love sheers. They can do no wrong in my book. French Sourire is a BEAUT!

    1. Hehe. Kristen, you are so funny. ;D I think they wanted to say that it leaves your lips soft even after the color is gone. I can actually say the same thing with RBR sheer lipstick for sure, but I'm not so sure if I could do the same this Shine Lover. Still, it is a nice one. ;)

  12. I think this is a nice range and worth looking at IF you fall in love with a colour. I'm happy with my one fuchsia and think the shades you showed here are all quite nice. But yeah, nothing groundbreaking or anything!

    1. I love that fuchsia shade on you and I'd probably get that or French Sourire if I am lured into buying some (with Lancome, it is always a matter of what extras you get. This scenario is very plausible) ;p

  13. I have the same sample packet! I have yet to come around to test it, though. Thanks for the heads-up. Now I know what to expect! 8 hours for a sheer formula, though? ;)

    1. I think the colors are beautiful and well executed in the formula for what it's worth. And probably I would have been friendlier if it was a full tube of lipstick. For the price, it is actually very nice. :)
No 8 hours though, for sure. ;p

  14. I feel you on the sample packets sometimes not leaving the same impression an actually tube would. I had a very nice sample packet from Dior of their Addict Lipsticks but wasn't left feeling too thrilled. I think, similarly, it was the feeling of using the tiny lip brush to apply the product. :-)

    1. I completely agree with you, Kimmy! Yeah, I love Dior Addict, but don't think my initial impression would have been great if out of a sample packet like this. But, Dior Addict is a better sheer, in my opinion. If you like more pigmented ones, Dior Addict Extreme would be a better fit, too. :)

  15. I'm interested in these partly because Lisa Eldridge came up with these. I really like the first shade. But at the end of the day, it's another sheer lipstick I don't really need.

    1. That explains! Because the colors are really nicely done in the range.
How many sheer lipsticks (or any kind of lipsticks) we need is a perpetual dilemma, I think. ;)

  16. I like French Soiree the most on you! :)
