Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet 50 La Romanesque

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet 50 La Romanesque

It is perfectly seasonable since we are still in April (besides today it is coat weather, again.), but I can't help but feel that I am terribly behind in writing about a piece from the Chanel Rêverie Parisienne collection (spring 2015). That is kind of insane, but we are already seeing the summer collections everywhere.

I am going through a matte lipstick phase right now (other than "the warm orange-y lipstick phase") and recently have bought a more than a few both from drugstores and higher-ends. Being equally fond of drugstore lipsticks in general, I secretly hoped that my affordable acquisitions would be as good as Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet La Romanesque. Sadly but justifiably, the Chanel turned out to be superior in this case.

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet

Chanel Rougel Allure Velvet La Romanesque
La Romanesque is a muted fuchsia with plum undertones.
Chanel describes it as a "magenta".

Chanel Rougel Allure Velvet La Romanesque swatch
On my lips, it shows up brighter pulling a bit red.
This swatch pic was made with single swipes.

La Romanesque practically glides on and feels incredibly light on lips. It quickly sets to last for a very long time leaving a strong stain behind, like a tattoo. The color turns slightly darker on me, too.
It does have that "shrink-wrap" kind of sensation which is quite common in long lasting formulas. Once set, it feels "tight" but not "dry", if that makes any sense. I like how gradually it wears off (I mean, minimally) that I never have to deal with flaking or peeling. I would have said this is the best matte formulation I've tried if I hadn't experienced the Tatcha lipstick.

Here is an overall look with Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet La Romanesque.

Chanel Rougel Allure Velvet La Romanesque FOTD

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet La Romanesque is excellent both in color and formula. In fact, I am quite smitten with the formulation that I am considering to get her sister, La Petillante, which is a stunning matte coral that will satisfy my current lipstick cravings.

Are you still enjoying the spring makeup?
Or are you already into bronzers and summer brights?

  1. It's lovely on you! I've been debating getting this since it came out. I'm glad it's permanent though!
I get what you mean about the formula feeling "tight", it's similar for me with Mac Retro Mattes.

    1. Oh, glad to hear that this gorgeous shade is permanent! It should be, really! :)
I only have one MAC Retro Matte (Ruby Woo), but I must say the Chanel feels much lighter on lips although I don't think the MAC is THAT drying.

  3. Gorgeous! I've been seeing this color pop up on my feed quite regularly. I have yet to give Chanel lipsticks another chance. Perhaps one day, I need to make time to re-discover Chanel :-)

    1. Rouge Allure is my favorite although I like the classic scent of Rouge Coco line better or unscented!). From what I've experienced, both Rouge Allure & Rouge Allure Velvet have great formulations. Hope you find something you like soon! :)

  4. I'm so glad you got this! I've been campaigning pretty hard for everyone I know to take a look at it LOL Love the shade on you! I've noticed that La Romanesque looks a bit different on everybody, but I've never seen it look bad!

    1. La Romanesque isn't a difficult shade for me to pull off, but your rec definitely helped! Thanks! :)
I have to agree this amazing color looks a bit different on everyone yet so pretty.

  5. Can't believe you're doing this to me, Lena! I just talked myself out of buying La Romanesque and here you are talking about it and showing how absolutely beautiful it is applied. Thanks! LOL! I also like that it's not too matte but still has a slight sheen to it. :)

I'm so sad that it's still coat weather there! I heard from a friend that it's still snowing where I used to live! This winter is harsh!

    1. Haha, you would love this, though! ;D I myself was influenced by other bloggers, and I'm only paying it forward, you know. ;p
This entire week has been so cold and today it's quite windy. Luckily I have heating in my apt and only have some paper work to do, which is a good thing.

  6. It is pretty! Mattes and brights go well together, I think - you can wear a really punchy color without looking too over-the-top, sometimes. I've never tried a Chanel lipstick for myself (I've bought my mom a couple), and for some reason they don't really appeal to me. Which is good for my wallet, lol, although really I just make up for it by buying Dior or something equally expensive T_T

    1. Exactly! Matte finish adds such an elegance to something that could look totally gaudy if in glossy finish. I started wearing bright colors more and this great improvement in matte formulation really enables me. I want to explore more!
I used to be so into Dior and buy Chanel for mainly packaging and colors, but now I'm discovering good things from Chanel range more. I started my couture makeup with Dior. It will always have a special place in my heart. They need to stop creeping up the price, though!! ;-/

    1. LOL. Cave in, Agata! I highly recommend La Romanesque. ;p
After the initial sheen wears off, it is a totally different color and it lasts for a long long time. I find it so interesting and practical at the same time.

  8. Love it on you! Perfectly Lena shade! I have this too! It's a bit darker on me, but I still love it! I agree, the formula is superb, darn it hahaha!

    1. Aww, Tracy you dub so many great shades for me, I'm honored! ;D
The lip swatch was taken right after I applied, and I must agree the color turns a bit dark once completely set. Either way, it is a very unique and interesting color. Love it. :)

I might get my first Chanel lipstick soon ( I'll have a transfer at Paris on my trip to Jakarta next week and already have a long list for duty free shopping :p ) but I am still not sure whether to get this Rouge Allure Velvet range or Rouge coco shine..

    1. Thank you, Pamela!
Rouge Coco Shine is nice, but I'd say get Rouge Allure or Rouge Allure Velvet! But honestly, Chanel lipsticks have no consistency. It is really case by case. If you're hitting DF, definitely have fun testing then decide. May you have enough time in between! :)

  11. beautiful color on you. I am also into matte lately but I don't like the drying-out feeling with most of mine. It is good that this one leaves a tint behind. I am lazy in re-applying and having some tint on my lips means fewer touch-ups.

    1. Thanks!
This definitely requires a very little reapplication. As I said, it feels like the formula wraps the lips tightly (which I think is why it is so long lasting) but it does not dry out lips. Give it a try. :)

  13. Even though it shrink wraps (good call on the terminology there!), it looks glorious on your lips! I LOVE this lipstick packaging. It's my favorite ever!

    1. Rouge Allure packaging is my favorite, too! It is everyday functional yet so chic.
You will definitely feel the formula sets firmly on lips, then it isn't drying. I don't see any flaking with this unlike other matte formulas I've tried. :)

I know what you mean by "too many lipsticks". I am trying to blog about other things than lipsticks, but it isn't all that easy since I almost impulsively buy lip stuff.

The reformulated Rouge Coco is pretty good, but my current favorite range is definitely Rouge Allure. :) Give them a try!

  16. I am in a matte kick as well (might very well started by you)so I love looking at your posts on these, I got a few matte lipsticks but I still have to dig in for many of them. This shade looks so tempting but I guess if it's permanent, I have plenty of time to decide...

    1. I am glad that La Romanesque become permanent, too! I hope other Rouge Allure and Rouge Allure Velvet are as good as those I've tried so far, because I want to try a few more soon.
BTW, I ordered Canmake clear cheek tint and Jelly (Jerry?) stick from Amazon. I'm totally going to blame (and thank) you. ;D

Rouge Allure line excites me more than the reformulated Rouge Coco for some reason.
I guess I am "trying" the same thing as you, but it's so hard, isn't it? I still have more lippies to review than other stuff. ;)

  18. I came sooo close to getting this, but got La Petillante as well. Both are beautiful shades- this one looks especially pretty on you! I really love the formula of the Rouge Allure Velvets :)

    1. Oooh, you got La Petillante! That color is so you! I still want it, seriously. Lipstick colors are important of course, but nowadays I really want something that feels good on my lips otherwise it is a waste of money high-end or not. ;)

  19. Wow, that color is gorgeous on you! I love a good pinky red lipstick. I have a few drugstore colors that look similar, but I'm guessing the Chanel is a little nicer, haha!

    1. Hi Michelle! Thanks so much. :)
La Romanesque is a brightening shade but has a nice depth to it, which makes it a quite unique color.
I love drugstore lipsticks, and I find Revlon matte formula is quite nice for example, but in this case Chanel is a little nicer. ;)

  20. Oh dear, the color just draws me in! I will forever be a lover of fuchsias, berries and plummy pink shades! The formula really sounds awesome, I'm totally good with lipsticks that dry down but as you described, the ones that feel like they're squeezing our lips dry is not very comfortable and they tend to get crackly looking too with time! My make up items really haven't changed much the last few months! Singapore's hot and humid year round so I could only dream of being able to decide which coat to put on for the day! :)

    1. Exactly, Sharlynn!
One of the drugstore mattes I recently bought is stunning in color but it gets dry and crackly.
I think this matte fuchsia/berry would work nice in hot weather. Glossy intense lips in humidity is cumbersome, right?
Anyway, I'd highly recommend Chanel Rouge Allure and Rouge Allure Velvet if you're looking to shop for some Chanel lipsticks. :)
