Butter London Nail Lacquer Ladybird

I often share my NOTDs on Twitter but not everything makes a blog post. Honestly I don't feel that passionate about nail polishes any more. I can't believe there was a time I changed colors daily (both on toes and tips). I still enjoy painting nails but maybe in the bigger sense of "grooming and polishing myself", not on its own.
However, this gorgeous red polish from Butter London has taken me by surprise, and certainly is worth talking about.

Butter London describes Ladybird as "an opaque tomato creme red".
It is probably the brightest and warmest red polish that I own. I realized that I never had an "orange red" polish before this. Corals and some peaches maybe, but not a single orange nor orange red. I didn't think I was missing out much because orange and I don't get along that well.
But look at this! Isn't this such a fresh and clear red? It reminds me of a full bloomed red geranium rather than tomato.

The formula is excellent which I find consistent in the creme finish from the brand (Shimmer and glitters are rather wonky. Sorry Butter London, I love you but the TRUTH). It is on the thinner side but covers very well and two coats provides this candy-like shine, which is remarkable for a 5 free polish. The application is a breeze. It goes on like buttah.
I have been wearing it for 6 days now and I will put on something else today, but it is only because my nails grow freakishly fast (thanks, Mom) that it shows from the roots not because of chipping. In fact, the color is very much intact and still shiny.

Butter London Come To Bed Red is ultimately "the red polish" for me, but Ladybird completes my red polish wardrobe. It would be absolutely gorgeous in summer but I have been immensely enjoying this sunny red in this gloomy weather.

  2. You used to change color EVERY DAY??? Wow! I don't think I ever had that patience ;)

Ladybird is certainly gorgeous, and I love the geranium photo you found. It is exactly that! I don't think I have a real orange red. The warmest red I have is Dior Pandore, but I don't think it's nearly as orange as this!

    1. Haha, that was after I'd found fast drying top coat! 5 minutes and I was boiling instant ramen noodles without messing up. ;D
Dior Pandore is also quite beautiful. It is, in fact, a very sexy red if not as orange as Ladybird.

  3. What a beautiful, striking red shade! I keep looking at this one in the store, but I haven't picked it up yet.
    Maybe I should :)

    1. There is something about this red color! The finish is opaque after 2 coats but is it not a retro opaque, which makes it so much easier to wear. I personally adore it. :)

  4. This shade is freaking beautiful! I actually have very few red shades and no orange toned reds! I would love some deep berry reds right about now actually. That's awesome that it applies like butter!

    1. All my Butter London polishes with creme finish apply like a dream, and I really like the brand!
For deep berry reds, Essie Head Mistress comes to my mind. :)

  6. So pretty! I've never tried Butter London polishes, but they seem to have a lot of nice ones. This colour reminds me of MAC's Lady Danger lipstick!

    1. Isn't it? I never thought I would like a warm-toned red this much.
And yes, Ladybird would beautifully correspond to Lady Danger! :)

  7. I think I need a tomato red polish, too. I have...a Butter London red. I can't remember which one it is now, though, lol. Maybe it is Come to Bed Red.

I agree with you - I like keeping my nails and toes painted (and thus need variety), but I only do nails maybe once a week or once every ten days...just to keep them looking neat and well groomed!

    1. Yes, you do, Larie! This is very You. :D

Back then, I was buying all the collections and obsessed with the subtle difference in color and finish. Now I'm keen more on what makes my hand look pretty! LOL

  8. We will never get enough red, right? :P.. Ladybird looks like a classic red that will go with almost anything ^^
I love red nail polishes and don't mind the one with orange undertone! I have 3 Butter London glitter nail polishes and they are good but I don't think they're worth the €18 price tag here.. I don't know how much they cost there in the US? I'd prefer to spend 3-4€ more and get haute nail polishes like Dior or YSL :-D

    1. So true, Pam! :)
Maybe haute brands are a bit more affordable over there, but here in the U.S., Butter London is only half the price, generally speaking. Considering that, it is absolutely worth it. But true I only like creme polishes from the brand. :)

  10. I have a lot of nail polish but only a few reds, and none of them are that PERFECT go-to shade of red, if you know what I mean. I like the two BLs you showed. I've kind of sworn off the brand after discovering they weren't actually British (LOL) but they do have some nice basic core colours.

And I'm totally with you on nail polish being a chore. I'm still interested becausepretty! but reapplication has become a total snoozefest.

    1. LOL they're not? ;D I still like the brand better than Deborah Lippmann, for example. Maybe it is because I happen to really adore some of the colors (all creme finish) from BL. DL is more for glitter lovers which I'm not.
I used to be afraid of wearing any red, then the old age happened. I'm embracing more colors lately! ;)
I'm so set for Come To Bed Red that I'm not even really looking (I will repurchase this), but I'd look essie or even revlon if it's for nice reds.
I think I kind of hate the filing, buffing, cuticle-pushing part although painting is still fun. I just gave myself a proper mani/pedi last night and I was exhausted. ;-(

  11. LOVE LOVE this shade!! It's so vibrant and statement-making! As soon as I saw this image on my feed, I went all ga-ga. Seriously though, this shade is everything!

    1. Thanks, Stephanie. Me, too! :)
I was surprised myself because I never loved anything orange tinged on my tips before.
And I just saw a gorgeous shade called "Orange Fusion" (YSL) from another beauty bloggers, and it is absolutely gorgeous. Very similar to this one, it seems. :)

  12. I don't have many reds at all. I like my nail colours either nude or dark, and if they are colours, I prefer them to be a little muted. I love how this looks on you though!

    1. I understand. Maybe it is also the climates? I myself wear nudes and darks a lot during the summer time when I wear more colorful outfits. In winter, I wear all black almost everyday so I need a pop of color on my tips. That's when rich reds and jewel tones come in handy.
For a muted red, how about Essie Bordeaux? It is such a beautiful shade that you'd love. :)

  14. I don't own any oranges either, don't usually feel drawn to them, but this is pretty! Wow that is amazing you changed both finger and toe nail colors daily in the past! I barely manage 2-3 wks for toes and actually rarely paint my fingers :P

    1. This would make a fabulous pedi color, too. :)
I think I only give myself a thorough pedi every 2 weeks, too. For some reason, toe nails grow slower. In between, I just do polish change and push cuticles back.

  15. Boo I commented then it disappeared after I clicked publish! I never tried butter polishes and I reallllly want to hop on to that brand, but it's $17 a bottle in Canada :/ I used to rotate between nail colours every 3 days around, but nowadays I keep them for up to a week even though they're chipping and all :P I think I have a orangey-red colour from Essie that I really like, I much prefer them than true reds!

    1. Awww, sorry about that, Wheetnee! Blogger can be so wonky so often. And thanks for taking time to leave another comment! :)
BL is around $15 here so the difference isn't so big, but I usually go for 2 Essie bottle for that kind of money, you know? But I do love some of the BL polishes. I never liked orange toned colors on me, so this is quite exciting. ^-^

  16. Aah! Red-tipped high fives for you, my friend! Come to Bed Red is my ultimate red polish too :-) Now you've made me want Ladybird, dammit! Although oranges are tricky for me makeup-wise, it's all fair game on the nails. This looks like a gorgeous orange red, and of course BL's creme formula is to die for (their glitters, on the other hand *cough*). ;-)

    1. Haha, I couldn't agree with you more. I'd spend my money on Deborah Lippmann if it is for glitters.
Ladybird is orange red but not with the retro finish, which I think is why even I can pull it off. I just saw YSL shade called Orange Fusion and drooled over. It was quite similar to Ladybird, though. :)
