Swatch, FOTD - L'Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Wet Shine Stain Stubborn Plum

My adorations for this drugstore hybrid lippies are well documented here on this blog.
I won't be reviewing this in details since it's been done so many times. Basically L'Oreal Wet Shine Stain is an affordable and sheerer version of the Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stain.
I ended up with 7 shades after giving one away and replacing a lost one. I think Stubborn Plum is my 6th one. Honestly, I would have bought it sooner if it had a different name. I mean, Stubborn Plum?  ;-/

Stubborn Plum is a sheer purple pink.
I have a hard time connecting this feminine and almost naive color to its weird name.
I find the lighter shades from the range go on even sheerer than the bright ones, and Stubborn Plum is not an exception.

The color shows up nicely on lips as it deepens a little bit once applied.
This swatch pic was taken 30 minutes after the application.
On my medium pigmented lips, Stubborn Plum is read as a cool mauve-y pink.

L'Oreal Wet Shine Stain Stubborn Plum is another winner in my book.
The color is sheer but it defines the lips nicely. Plus it feels quite light on lips and is long lasting, which I find more suitable for summer. Mind you that it is fragranced with a boozy floral scent and a little bit sticky.
BTW, it seems L'Oreal has relabeld this "Aqua Lacquer". Does anyone else think it adds more confusion to the already mouthful? ;o

Thanks for looking.

  1. Yesss this looks awesome! But eh, yeah, they could have done better than "Stubborn Plum".

When you say this has been renamed to Aqua Lacquer, you mean the Wet Shine Stain part, right? Not the shade name? (L'Oreal's recent lip launches have been pretty excellent, but MAN are their names confusing!)

    1. Thanks, Rae!
I kind of miss the simple time when lipsticks had simple names like pink, purple, light brown, etc. ;p But I do see how these name plays affect the whole business now.
And yes, I meant the Wet Shine Stain part. I have been very impressed with L'Oreal new lippes as well. :)

  2. Oh the color is lovely!! I believe this particular range is named differently here in Germany..
I had one in red but I didn't really like it as it was very dry on the lips and wouldn't cooperate with lip balm underneath T.T
great that it works out for you! ^^

    1. I like the european names better. They seem more personal and unique than the US names.
I guess you gotta be a fan of this formula. I happen to like it a lot finding it is quite moisturizing as well, well, for a long lasting lip stain, it is. :)

  3. This is a color I could definitely go for but I'm scared of drugstore lip products due to my last purchases. L'Oréal lip balm and Maybelline hybrid (whatever the name) their tastes made me litteraly gag and I had to take them off after less than 30 min. Could be they were from bad batches I just don't know. I've read many comments about these "Aqua Lacquer" and should try at least one... eventually. :)

    1. Oh, then I am afraid you might not like this one, either! I haven't tried the Maybelline one, but the L'Oreal Extraordinaire is scented with strong florals. Aqua Lacquer smells quite similar to the YSL Glossy Stain if you're familiar with it. I prefer this scent over sickly sweet artificial vanilla, for example, although I'd much prefer no scent! :)

  4. I was in total awe when the ysl glossy stains came out but am glad I never got around to buying any as they are so pricey here! I've been waiting it out to see if anything else comes along and I totally need one of these babies! love the color, it's barely a plum, more like a light berry!

    1. I think the YSL Glossy Stains offer more interesting colors and more pigmentations. I find the L'Oreal ones are easier to use, though. The brighter darker shades are very pigmented as well. Give it a try when you get a chance. I think they are quite close actually! :)

So pretty on you and definitely a Lena lip shade!

  6. Haha, Stubborn Plum. That's just silly. I have a couple and I don't mind them, but they do get really tacky after a while! I like the Maybelline Color Elixirs better, although I wouldn't say they are an exact match in formula type.

    1. I don't understand why we always get uglier packaging with stupid names. I remember seeing a shade called "Juliette" which resembles "Infinite Fuchsia". ;/
I will have to try the Maybelline ones, but I've heard it is close to the L'Oreal Extraordinaire, which I prefer to wear in warmer months. I don't like tackiness but I find this one is acceptable probably because it goes on thin and sheer. :)
      I'm not

  7. Wow, that looks so gorgeous on you. I love that color. It's so fresh, but deep at the same time. If that makes any sense at all. I obviously am not a makeup specialist, haha!

You're a designer who I think probably know much better about colors than me! I agree this color is quiet but comes with depths. :)

    1. If you're into more balmy textured stuff, you might find the slight tackiness of this a bit bothering. Give it a try, though. I think this is a very user-friendly lip stain. :)

  10. I got a similar colour but it's from that Extraordinaire series......... all because of yooooooouuuuuuu. I like it but I think I like it on you more. ;)

    1. Oooh, which color? Purple Prelude..or Molto Mauve..?? They are super pretty!
I think the Extraordinaire is a bit heavy to wear often in summer, but I like that range a lot, too. :)

    2. Purple Prelude! I kind of wish it was darker, but I guess this is quite unique in my collection. :)

  13. I have yet to try these but your review makes me want to run out and get myself a couple! I tend to be more of a lipstick girl, but maybe that's because I haven't met the right gloss?

    1. I love this even more than the YSL. If you don't mind a slight tackiness and flowery scents, you might like it, too. :)
