Review, Swatch - Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant & Rouge Artist Natural

I got these minis in the birthday set from Sephora a while ago and quickly (and completely) forgot about them. I love legit minis and am fond of the brand, but I guess I was underwhelmed by a lipstick in such a safe color and a non-waterproof mascara.
Turns out they are quite nice if not worth gushing over, and I repent that I did not review them sooner.
(Seriously, I need to do something about my queue that is getting bigger and bigger, or rather about my procrastination.)

Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara
Smoky Extravagant is "a single mascara with extravagant volume and up close precision" according to Make Up For Ever.

Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Brush
The brush is actually huge and even reminds me of a fat caterpillar. ;o
The mascara formula is ideal being neither too thin nor too thick, and the black color is quite intense.
Smoky Extravagant indeed lengthens and builds big lashes quickly without clumping, but just like any other mascara with regular formula, it uncurls my eyelashes right away.
However, it would be a great option if you have naturally curly lashes.
I have not experienced any smudging or flaking.

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural N9
Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural is a "moisturizing, soft shine lipstick".

N9 is described as a "Copper Pink".

N9 looks like a medium brown with warm red undertones, which is not a color that I would personally choose. This is a flattering office-appropriate color for many (and seems like a best seller since Sephora does not have it in stock), but it does not suit my lip color preference that leans strongly towards cool pinks and berries.

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artst N9 Swatch
The texture is lovely and it glides on effortlessly.
The color is sheer yet buildable.

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural N9 Swatch
Applied on the lips, it looks a bit more flattering since the pinkish hue is more pronounced.
Rouge Artist Natural feels incredibly light and comfortable on. It also keeps my lips moisturized for a long time.
Unfortunately, it has an old school lipstick smell to it. Nothing I couldn't bear, but I would have been much happier without it.

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural N9 FOTD

I am actually glad that I (decided to clean my vanity and) got to experience them.
The superior lipstick formula particularly interests me, and I would certainly consider this range in the future since Make Up For Ever offers whopping 50 shades.
Rouge Artist Natural is comparable to MAC Lustre lipstick, but it feels much more comfortable on lips and the pigmentations seem clearer as well.

  1. I like this formula of lipstick from MUFE and the mascara too. But I decided to get the good ole Fresh lip balm set again haha, since I refuse to pay so much money for a lip balm LOL. I like this shade on you a lot! Makes you look more mysterious hahaha!

    1. LOL. I always look too serious in my FOTDs. I don't know about mysterious, though! ;D
To me, MUFE lipstick feels true to a sheer lipstick where Fresh ones are like lip balm with too much pigments. But their set is a nice value. ;)

  2. I LOVE the MUFE mascara formula! It lengthens and volumizes without clumping my lashes down :) I can't wait to get this set for my birthday! The lipstick color looks great on you - definitely a safe, wearable everyday colour that's bound to be used up!

    1. Oh, I guess this set is still available, then? Good for you since you like the mascara formula! I can see myself enjoying this if it was a wp one.
And I like the lipstick more than I expected. Plus it feels great on! :)

  3. I have a sample of this MUFE mascara. I was surprised at how big the mascara wand looked too. XD I do like that it doesn't clump on me though and gives a good oomph for my lashes. The lipstick looks lovely on you, btw! :)

    1. Right? I was like, "woa, caterpillar!" LOL
I wish I could wear regular mascaras. There are so many samples lying around in the house, and they are all regular ones.. ;-/

  4. I hated that mascara! LOL. It flakes like nuts on me. I have no idea why. Oh well. The lipstick seems nice!

    1. Aww really? That's too bad. Do you think it could be an old tube, maybe? Mine does not have any flaking problem although that doesn't do much good unless it keeps my curls intact.

  5. I'm so sad that I missed my birthday gift! It was finals season and I totally ran out of time. Looks gorgeous! I didn't expect the lipstick to be that color

    1. Hope this set is still available or a even better one by your next birthday!
I feel the same way about the lipstick color. It is slowly growing on me. ;)

  6. Hmm I think I tried a mini waterproof MUFE mascara, but I can't even remember which it is now! Copper Pink looks great on you! I like how it's not too "brown."

    1. Thanks, Sunny! That is exactly my thoughts on the lipstick color. It is very easy to wear! Maybe I could play up by pairing with blue eyeshadows or something, too. :)

  7. I too got this set for my bday and the lipstick, I already had the full size and it was my go to no fuss for everyday a few years back. For some reason I can't seem to really get back to it preferring other formulas but you're right it's very comfortable to wear and it really looks great on you! The mascara works on me if I heat my lash curler but I just can't get used to the size of the brush.

    1. Ah so I figured this set consists of good steady sellers from MUFE. I think of the brand highly especially compared to MAC. Maybe MUFE needs to jazz up their game a little bit.
I was more satisfied with the set since I didn't have much expectation to begin with. I must say they both are quite solid in quality! :)

  8. OMG I would love all the items in that kit! I don't know if it's sold here yet in sephora but I will be looking out! That shade of lipstick also is such a beautiful rosy blush nude! Looks great on you Lena!

    1. LOL now you described the lipstick color as "rosy blush nude", I like it even more. Why couldn't MUFE do this? ;p

  9. oh this is one lovely kit!! I have never tried anything from MUFE, once again because the brand is not available here T.T
But Sephora US now ships to Germany which is an answered prayer from make up Goddess. lol, so maybe when I decide to put an order to Sephora US, I will include some MUFE products, the lipstick sounds more interesting for me!! such a lovely color on you, Lena :)

    1. Thanks, Pam!
MUFE is a more of professional artist kind of brand with high performance products, it seems. I think you'd love their foundations as well.
They also have the intense version of the lipstick, which is quite popular. :)

  10. The MUFE waterproof smoky lash mascara curls really well but smudged so badly on me that I had to give up. I got this set as well but ended up giving both the mascara and lipstick away since I'm drowning in other makeup. I generally really like MUFE!

    1. That is good to hear about the wp version of the mascara! I almost never have a smudging issue with mascaras, so I will keep that in mind as a curl-holding(?) mascara. :)
Legit minis are the best. I'm sure whoever received this set was quite happy!
