Review - Dior Diorskin Nude Compact Ivory (10)

There was a time when I relied only on powder foundation for daily makeup, but now I just carry one in my makeup pouch for occasional touchups.
Selecting a good powder foundation is still essential for me, though.
My combination skin needs touchups frequently, and the morning effort put in to look descent could all end up in vain if I am not equipped with a nice powder foundation.

Actually, Diorskin Nude Compact was not my first choice.
I initially went with the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Powder Foundation which I happily used up quite a while ago, but I forgot the U.S. color range Chanel offers is always slightly off for me. Even the lightest shade looked muddy on me and the powder felt drying on rather than melding with my skin.

Diorskin Nude Compact came as an alternative when I remembered Dior always offered an excellent selection of pale yellow base makeup.

Dior Diorskin Nude Compact Ivory (10)

Dior offers another type of powder foundation which is more traditional, but I decided to go with Diorskin Nude Compact largely attracted by the silvery exteriors and the brush that comes with.

(But lets go back a little and start with the porn first. ;))

The compact is housed in the signature Dior blue box, of course.

The dark blue pouch has a front pocket where the brush perfectly fits in.
I can't say it's all that practical, but it is a nice touch showing that Dior cares.
(Chanel should learn a few things, no?)

As you see, the silver case is super reflective and obviously a fingerprint magnet.
It is very pretty and sturdy, but I must say it is a bit bulky, too.
The case easily opens and snaps shut. You don't have to worry about your nails with this one.

You can use Diorskin Nude Compact in two different ways.
You get more coverage with sponge application (powder foundtion), or you can use it all over as a finishing powder with brush.

There is a protective cover that is quite thick, but I would have preferred one of those flipping plastics as I've seen from some of the Dior makeup.
The sponge is pretty good quality, btw.

The brush is well made and very soft.
No scratchy mess here.
(That's right. I'm looking at you, Guerlain.)

I myself much prefer the brush application for daily touchups.

Overall, I am happy with this powder foundation.
I was a bit concerned that it might be too shimmery since it boasts of having mother of pearl particles in it, but the finish is very natural and satiny rather than shimmery. Still, it doesn't look flat or ashy, which is my usual concern with powder foundations.
Instead of the sponge provided, I use a kabuki brush to achieve more coverage and the result is quite flawless.
The flat brush is best to use for touchups to ensure no cake-up in sight.

Diorskin Nude Compact is very finely milled, so the surface stays velvety soft even after months.
No grainy spots. I hate those. ;-/

The quality of this powder foundation is great but I am most satisfied with the color, actually.
The Ivory (10) is almost too perfect for my current complexion. This clean beige with yellow undertone works wonderfully to cancel the ruddiness on my cheeks and to effectively refresh the look of my makeup throughout the day.
You don't need all that heavy coverage when the color match is great, is my humble opinion.

I still prefer my former (and sadly lost) powder foundation from Paul & Joe for its smaller and prettier packaging, but Diorskin Nude Compact comes in a close second.
This is not for someone looking for ultimate coverage or oil control, but I can certainly see many will love it for what it is.

Thanks for reading.

  1. I used to rely only on powder foundation, too! (Clinique). I've been thinking about going back to it...this sounds like a good one! Oh, Lena. Why must you do this to me?

    1. Same here! I used to finish Clinique Double Face Powder every other month! LOL
I've been wearing this all over a lot lately. It's not a bad idea since the weather is warmer now. ;)

It is a very convenient and quick solution for base makeup. You should try!

  3. oh this sounds like a great one!
I only carry blotting powder for touch up and my current companion is MAC blotting powder. it does its job very well I must say!
But my fave powder foundation for now is Tarte airbrush full coverage foundation, I didn't like it at the first time but now I am enjoying it very much :-)

    1. MAC blotting powder seems to be an ideal solution if your main concern is the shiny t-zone. I need a little more coverage than that. It also comes in handy when I have a drink since I get really pink with just a bit of alcohol. LOLz

  5. I still love Powder Foundations a lot! I use one pretty much every day. This looks like a good one! You should look into the Givenchy Teinte Couture Powder Foundation-that one is my FAVE right now. I should review it hey?

  6. Hey Lena, strange as it might be, I have never tried any Dior base makeup! I'm glad to hear it is possible to find pale yellow-based shades though! On low-key days, I just use powder foundation. My current favorite is Chanel Aqualumiere Compact Douceur. I have to be careful not to overdose though, otherwise I could end up looking sweaty instead of dewy!

    1. Dior base makeup agrees with me much better than Chanel. I think it is the color range.
The Aualumiere is not avail in the states (sad), but the one I tried is too drying. Diornude is a happy medium. :)

  7. Great review Lena, sounds like a great match for your skin. Very handy it comes with a sponge and brush. I use the Chanel Mat Lumiere compact foundation for my daily touch ups, it cancels out shiny skin in a second.

    1. Thank you!
I don't think I've seen Mat Lumiere here. Chanel product lineup could be confusing sometimes.
I really enjoy the brush application for touchups. It never cakes up! :)

  8. Sounds so good, I think I totally need to invest in a higher end powder compact just for the nights out to touch up, I really like that idea! Since I am a powder lover! I'm always going between something new and my holy grail ZA pressed powder!

    1. It is actually pretty nice.
Since it lasts for a long time and pretty to look at, your idea of investing in higher end sounds good to me! :)

  9. This post reinforces my belief the single most important factor in foundation is the shade match! It's so hard to get perfect but when you find something that works for you, it just makes everything so much easier. I rarely wear powder foundation but carrying it on the go and touching up sounds like a great idea, especially since my makeup is always slipping off by the end of the day.

    1. I've tried pressed powder but it was never enough. Sometimes you see these "holes" on face during the hectic day. I need something to fill in with! ;p
I couldn't agree more with you that color match is the single most important thing in base makeup!

  10. LOL @ smack against Chanel and Guerlain! I do like your description of this and that they give you both a brush AND a sponge. I've looked at it before but never bothered to get a match (but that's the case with everything already out there... -___- ). I was thinking of getting a high-end liquid foundation but now you make me want a powder too. THANKS, LENA!

I don't know why I always compare Chanel and Dior. I love Chanel, too..but Dior seems slightly underdog to me..and I like underdogs! (Ok, it is not a good reason to side one brand over another..let's just say Dior works better for me)
Finding a perfect liquid foundation is a better quest if you ask me, though. :)

  11. That's such a pretty compact... the kind you wouldn't mind pulling out in public ;) I can't use powder foundation anymore since my skin tends to towards the dry side these days.

I find many powder foundation drying on my skin as well.
You might want to try those cream to powder formulas. ;)

  12. Oh, a sponge and a brush? Really does show that there's a lot of thoughts that go into the packaging process indeed ;) I have yet to try a face product from Dior, but this certainly piques my interest!

    1. It's probably because of the dual purposes of this product, but it is nice to have options, you know? I think all high-end powder should come with both. LOL

  13. I actually really like this foundation. My shade is a warmer shade 011. It might only be available in Asia, I'm not sure, because some friends in the US can't find this. 010 is light enough, but still a tad pink. I like how soft and fine the powder is, and when it's on the skin, it doesn't look powdery. What weird creatures we are, eh? I want powder, but I don't want it to look like powder. Hahaha!

    1. I don't think the 011 shade is avail here..but you just summed perfectly about this powder foundation!
I really like that, too! Easy to use powder that doesn't look powdery. LOL.
We're nice but hard to please, I guess. ;-)

  14. I actually don't have a favourite setting powder/foundation. I've been using MAC mineralize skin finish natural for 3 years now, and I think it's about time I switch it up. Maybe I'll give this one a shot. I think bobbi brown makes some good ones too.

    1. I don't think many are meant to be setting powder and powder foundation at the same time. I actually like this to use all over or for touch-ups. It has the light yet non-powder finish which I like very much.
Hope you find a nice one soon for you! :)
