NOTD - Essie No More Film

I had been sporting this bright jelly color for a week anticipating the new season.
Although this perfect shade of hot pink was so pretty and wore well, I felt there was something amiss.
Maybe it is still too cold and windy despite of the official announcement of "first day of spring" (how do they determine this anyway especially when the mayor frigging dropped the groundhog this year?) not to mention we're expecting some snow in this coming week.

So back to dark and vampy, aka the polish comfort zone for me, I dug out this from my polish box.
(Seriously, I need to stash shop more often. I found many unopened polishes, too!)

Essie No More Film

Essie No More Film is a deep violet creme with a touch of grey.
This reminds me of my other favorite, Essie Bobbing For Baubles, which would be a bluer and greyer version of No More Film.

No More Film is dark and rich, but it still has this breezy feeling to it maybe because it belong to a resort collection (2012).

It was quite tricky to capture the actual color of No More Film, so I had to roll up the blind and utilize the sunlight.
All worth it, though.
Isn't this a beautiful color? :)

The formula is particularly excellent.
It is not too thick nor thin and applies smoothly with no streaks, which virtually makes a one-coater for me.
(I applied two coats in this case. I'd do it for you. ;))

The truth is, I feel calm and in control wearing this off-season color.
I think I will sport some more dark colors like this for a little longer without apologizing.

Come snow, come. ;)

I really like this color as well. Love that it's slightly mirky with grey tone. :)

  2. Off-season nail polishes for the win! I get infatuated with bright shades for a short period of time a year. For the rest, I'd happily wear darker shades! Love No More Film on you! Don't think I own anything remotely similar!

    1. I agree! :)
And it is much more wearable for me than reddish purple and also makes my skin tone look clean against it.

  4. This is a colour that I don't think I would be able to pull off but I agree with you here - the colour is amazing and I'm sure it looks equally amazing in real life! I've always been a fan of Essie's nail polishes (formula and colour) so I'm excited about shades like these!

    1. Why not? I find it very wearable. I guess it's due to a certain amount of grey color in it.
I'm a big fan of Essie polishes and love their gel-creme formula especially. :)

  5. Bahahaha. I didn't even pay attention to the groundhog. They dropped him??? Poor thing. Living where I do, winter temps tend to last until at least part way through April. Case in point, they are predicting snow again next week. That's my way of saying rock on with the vampy nails because I think they're still appropriate.

    1. Haha. I think there is a YouTube video. It's more like he wiggled his way out of the poor mayor's hands and actually made him look bad. ;D
Yeah, I think we're getting used to this. I remember spring came very late last year and we had snow in April, too! ;o

Sometimes doing cosmetics inventory is the best way to stay on no-buy wagon, and I was inspired to wear more varieties of nail colors. :)

  7. I like this dark shade! I actually haven't had much luck with Essie polishes (although Mint Candy Apple is one of my favorite shades, the formula makes me grumble), but you always find some gems!

    1. I'm surprised to hear that, Larie! Cause I love Essie formula in general (especially their gel-creme) but find Mint Apple Candy unwearable. LOL. The color is too perfect that it makes my hands look like beast's and I agree the formula is super streaky. ;o

  8. I'm of the opinion that you should wear what ever colour speaks to you at the moment, so if it's dark vampy shades then YAY! Love this shade!

  9. This is a very nice color!!!
I love how it has a touch of midnight blue and violet, something you don't really see often..
I think Essie has good formula for darker shades as they tend to be inconsistent with lighter shades..

    1. It is indeed quite attractive. :)
I think many polish companies have suffered after big 3 free phase. I see there is some inconsistency depending on the opacity and finish.
I still think Essie does gel-creme finish the best regardless of the colors. This one is actually completely opaque but has a nice formula. :)

  10. I've decided I dislike Essie's formula for the most part, but they still have some really beautiful shades and this is one of them. I have similar ones though and can't justify the purchase. *weeps* lol

    1. To think about it, I mostly love Essie's classic shades with gel-creme finish and sheers.
I was expecting No More Film to be streaky and staining, but it is not! I was surprised.
Which one is your blurple? Did you already blog about it? ;)

  11. That's such a pretty color! I don't recall the last time I bought an Essie nail polish. Their thin brushes make me stay away. :X

    1. I guess we would never fight over a same polish, then! I usually stay away from those wide brushes cause they don't work for my nail shapes. LOL

  12. You always take the prettiest photos! This is a really pretty shade. I really like rich colours so this is definitely one to look out for. Having said that, I don't seem to have much luck with the formula - it always comes out streaky for me -_-

I'm a little surprised to hear the negative opinions about Essie formula! Now to think about it, they do have inconsistency especially after they went big 3 free. I still find their gel-creme formula applies like dream, though. Opaque one, not so much. ;)

I think because it's s pretty vibrant shade, despite being dark, you can easily get away with wearing it during warmer seasons as well. I can totally imagine wearing this during the summer!
