Nail Polish Comparison - Four Shades Of Grey

I am pretty sure you can acquire all fifty nail polishes with different grey hues if you want..
I only have four.
(Some might say "what, you have FOUR grey nail polishes?", but I would calmly repeat, "it's ONLY four.")

Subtle difference of colors and undertones in makeup always fascinates me, and I believe this is why we all have tens of different taupe eyeshadows and pink blushes.
Plus now we all have these evolved super-eyes that can distinguish all the color differences in the world, right? ;)

Grey nail polishes
(L to R)
Zoya Dove
Zoya Harley
Essie Chinchilly
Essie Playa Del Platinum

I suppose I have more but I decided to exclude the ones with equal parts of brown and grey - aka "taupe", because that should deserve a dedicated post on its own.
I am astounded to see how different each color looks and even not-so-grey in the picture because, they all look plain grey in real life even to the "normal" people's eyes.

Zoya Dove is a lovely creme grey with neutral undertones. It looks particularly pretty on longish nails.
Zoya Harley is a grey with lavender shimmer and perfect for spring.
Essie Chinchilly is a medium grey with purple undertones. Interesting it shows up more purple on my nails than on others.
Essie Playa Del Platinum is a pale grey with green undertone, which reminds me of linen and breezy summer day.

I do love grey nail polishes and think the color is perfectly transitional between seasons, but I have always wondered if I have too many similar shades in my polish stash.
Now I can clearly see that is not the case and breathe easy with lesser guilt.

(Taupe, I am not so sure about, so let me get on with it soon and we will find out! :))

  1. Hey Lena, what a lovely stash of gray nail polishes! I enjoy gray on others, but on my skin tone it could go really wrong. The only gray nail polish I own is Chanel Frenzy, which is a "nude" that I really enjoy. Other than that, I am a total newbie!

    1. Thanks, Sunny. ;)
I understand what you mean. Some grey polishes could look quite harsh on my hands, too!
"Nude grey" sounds very nice. I will check out Chanel Frenzy. :)

Zoya Dove is a softer clean grey and can be a great alternate to beige.

  10. My favorites are Zoya Harley and the Essie one. I love that almost lilac like shimmer in Harley and the Essie one I really just like the cool tone slate shade. The first Zoya is a bit too light and slightly yellow for my liking! Thanks for sharing!

  11. I love grey polishes and I have Chinchilly. I have a steel grey one from Revlon but I'm not liking it that much. I might have to take a close look at Playa Del Platinum. Looks like something I'll like :-)

    1. I am with you, Lily! I find steel grey hard to wear especially in shimmery finish.
Playa Del Platinum is very airy and easy to wear. It is from a summer collection, too! :)

  13. oh my gosh, i went crazy looking for a dove gray several years ago! finally found one from rescue beauty lounge. think it was concrete jungle. i also got a darker gray called stormy. so i love all of these shades. i used to love the dove/concrete grays then, but now i like mauve-y ones like chinchilly.

  16. I'm not huge on pure grey polishes (like concrete grey) but I LOVE dove grey or purplish-greys (my fav). I wish Essie Chinchilly was more purple and lighter on me, it always looks very dark and murky :p

    1. Oh, concrete grey is hard! My favorite is also something with purple undertones.
Chinchilly seems to be a chameleon cause it shows darker on my nails, too! ;)
