In fact, this is one of the looks I have worn many times except I am not wearing any blush on my cheeks this time.
Last week, I ended up looking ghostly pale and even a little goth because I did not have time to put on the "usual stuff" in the morning.
(No doubt I am a vain person but I still choose sleep over makeup.)
FOTD - Pale Cheeks
I am currently using the Dermalogica ChromaWhite products, and I think this regimen is working pretty well for me since I notice my skin tone is evened out and brighter after 3 weeks of use.
So I decided to skip the foundation in that morning and bravely left my place just wearing black eyeliner and dark wine-y lips.

I must say I felt self conscious all day yet liberated for some reason.
To think about it, there was a time I did not own any blush because all I needed was a lipstick and a mascara.
(Oh yes, and I only owned three lipsticks or something. Everyone remember that time? )
I think it is probably the strong color contrast, but I even fetched a couple of compliments which made me want to recreate the look (with more makeup, of course).
I would still say it is an editorial look because it does NOT look natural and somewhat striking.
Surprisingly, you look more "done" although you use less makeup.
"Natural barely there" kinda look requires more time, makeup and techniques in my humble opinion.
What is your absolute makeup essentials on a busy morning? ;)
Well if you run out and you'd like me to buy a few for you & ship it out, just send me an e-mail! I'll gladly do so for you. I know how it is to love certain products you just can't find in your own country.
ReplyDeletewill do. thanks, Isabelle! :)
ReplyDeletei love the foundation! most importantly, 51 is such a great color match for me. i had to order it from outside the u.s. but it was worth it. ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree! Sometimes I skip or leave certain things out in an attempt to create a more streamlined look, but you really only do need some colors here and there to create a striking, gorgeous look. That YSL stain is GORGEOUS on you, Lena, and I love this look. Simple, striking, classic.
ReplyDeletethank you so much, Larie!
ReplyDeletei don't think i'd buy another YSL stain anytime soon since i have cheaper alternatives now...but there's something about this particular color. love it!
lovely make up :D
ReplyDeleteI follow U on pinterest :3
thanks, Fanny!
ReplyDeletefollowing you back. :)
I would be so conscious about myself when not wearing blush! I just bought the Bourjois Healthy Mix in 51 too after reading such raving reviews + seeing everyone incorporate it in their daily looks.. Very curious about it :-)
ReplyDeleteThat YSL stain is so beautiful! *A*
ReplyDeleteI actually normally skip blush, because I prefer the way I look without it. You look gorgeous!
thanks, Junjun!
ReplyDeletei agree some people look better with very simple makeup. :)
I would skip the Powder instead of blush! That LipStain is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteMyMakeUpCompulsion
blush can brighten up the whole complexion. ;)
ReplyDeletelove love the glossy stain. wish it was more affordable, though!
Hah, I definitely remember the times of having just 5 products, lol. It took me a while before I started wearing blush but now I can't live without it. But yes, it definitely looks very different if you skip on the blush. I think it suits you though, you really get away with it nicely! ^^
ReplyDeletethanks, Teri!
ReplyDeleteyeah, i started blush very recently as well. i guess i didn't know how to choose the right shade for me or how to evenly apply without looking like a clown face. lolz
such a pretty look! I wish my lips are as pretty as yours :)
ReplyDeleteawww thank you so much. what a nice compliment! :)
ReplyDeleteI miss your FOTDs! you look gorgeous here, especially with the subtle vampy lips ! ;)
ReplyDeletePaul and Joe cream foundation is one of the first foundation i have ever used and I loved it.. I don't have it with me anymore, but I'd love to try it once again maybe soon ;)
thank you so much, Pam!
ReplyDeletethe P&J foundation works really well by itself but when mixed with others it is even better!
I only own 3 lipsticks right now! Love the lip color and sparkly eyes. How do you get your photos to have this effect?
ReplyDeletelol. you're lucky! ;)
ReplyDeleteit is just a simple soft light box. i use one for everything.
thank you. ^-^
Beautiful look!
ReplyDeleteMy absolute makeup essentials are mineral powder foundation, eyeliner, blush, and lippie. I can slap these on in ~4 minutes and put on mascara in the office ladies' room when I get to work. ;)
thank you, Wendy! :)
ReplyDeletewow, that's quick. i still need 10 minutes.
i love mineral powder when i am really busy, too! :)
Lol I do vaguely remember a time when I had 3 lipsticks and no blushes ... how did it all go so wrong? :p Love the look, the lavender/grey/silvery eyeshadow is so pretty and the glossy wine lips make a lovely combination :)
ReplyDeletehaha exactly. there was a time my makeup world was so simple! ;)
ReplyDeletelhasa is my favorite to pair with dark wine color lippies.
thank you! :)
As you know, I love blush, so it blows me away that this look can appear so "done" and sharp without it! LOVE. I'm so digging that Violet Edition lip stain. You look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteawww thank you, Liz!
ReplyDeletei felt the same way. i guess i will try more of this until i can afford to spend more time on putting makeup on. ;)
i love the Violet Edition as well. it really deepens into violet after a while.
You look beautiful Lena :-)
ReplyDeleteI certainly do remember that time.. I was very fearful of blush and I don't think I started wearing it until about 3 yrs ago, only bronzer that is. I have to say looking back, I needed it! :-)
thank you!
ReplyDeletei still haven't used bronzer for real..and i remember i used up a lippie every two months. good times. lol
I love the pale cheeks
ReplyDeleteyou look beautiful lena..
I love the eye make up too
aww thank you so much, Camilla. :)
ReplyDeleteNars Lhasa is beautiful :) I use Mac Satin Taupe in a similar way on my busy mornings.
ReplyDeletei love lhasa so much! it is as versatile as the satin taupe. don't you love how taupe shades play so differently on each of us? ;)
ReplyDeleteOh Lena, you're just so pretty all the time! My absolute essential is just my Hourglass brow pencil. Once my brows are filled I am not too fussy about everything else ;) That's really how lazy I am!
ReplyDeleteoh my! what a comment! i love you! ;D
ReplyDeleteeyebrows are the most important things! good choice :)
loved your eye makeup and lips, very pretty! ^_~
ReplyDeletethanks, Janet! :)
Deleteyour ChromaWhite reviews were very helpful.
they are indeed very drying but seem to work for me well.
This look is really nice! Blush really does make a difference. To be honest I'm the type who would rather wake up 2 hours early than hurry through my makeup and sleep in but I guess if I had to pick an essential it'd be...my foundation. I have acne scarring so i'd feel pretty uncomfortable not covering it up. Or an eyebrow pencil. My brows are a bit funky.
ReplyDeletethank you, Jacky!
Deletei admire you. you're a true makeup enthusiast!
i wanna try an exaggerated blush - kinda look as well. ;)
I always feel so drab if I don't wear blush but somehow you make it work Lena. I choose sleep over makeup too :)
ReplyDeleteHope you've been well. I wish it would get warm in NYC already.
Rowena @ rolala loves
i feel i look older if i don't wear blush, to be honest.
Deletemaybe this explains why i didn't have to wear it back then. (*sighs*)
can you believe you had that much of snow in the middle of march? ;o
i am expecting another one in april, actually. haha
stay well, my friend! :)
Nice post!!

Violet Edition looks beautiful on you. I own that shade too and think it is very bold. I love rich berries. I think it can seep into my lip lines a bit though, that doesn't seem the case with you!
