I think I love everything about it except for the $32 price tag.
The color of my choice, Violet Edition is a perfect dark purple red.
(I might have just found my "Movie Star" lippie! ;o)
Yves Saint Laurent ROUGE PUR COUTURE Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain
Violet Edition (1)
It comes with a fuzzy applicator with a unique shape.
I think this works very cleverly to distribute the color evenly on lips.
swatch
It feels quite watery and cool on contact.
It does leave a nice stain.
What I love the most about this lippie is its perfect balance between the moisturizing finish and the longevity.
It sets pretty quickly but still gives me time to work with it, and after a careful blotting I find it stays on very well without drying out my lips.
Thanks to the shiny moisturizing finish, it does not accentuate the dry spots on lips and can be easily worn even on those "bad lips days".
I also love that I can control the color intensity quite easily.
before blotting
blotted once and topped with a sheer lipstick (L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm)
Here is the overall look...
I took this picture a couple nights ago before I went out for a drink.
It lasted through a light meal and two drinks.
Good enough for me! :)
This is the pic I shared on Instagram.
(The moral here is that you need to either comb your hair or crop it out. )
I just placed an order for the new L'Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Shine Stain and feel very excited about it.
Looks like this one is a nice dupe for this YSL version with a fraction of the heavy price tag.
Mentioning the L'Oreal Caresse, I also recently tried the lipstick from the line and absolutely loved it.
I will post a review and swatch post soon.
Have you tried Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stain?
How did you like it?
this color is gorgeous!!!! and its soo creamy looking in the swatch i love it!!! i love lipstains that have that moisturizing finish because you can work with them and not have dried out lips like regular lipstains give
ReplyDeletethank you. i love this very much! it made my top 5 lippies in 2012.
ReplyDeletei like hybrid lippies like this. :)
Cute color, that really suits with your light skin tone. :) I should be more bold and experiment with lip colors more ! :)
ReplyDeleteSatu

hi Satu! :)
ReplyDeletethank you for your compliment.
i am usually a light pink sheer lipstick kinda gal..but i am having lots of fun with deeper colors lately. :)
thank you!
ReplyDeletei've been wearing dark berry colors a lot more often lately. :)
seriously, i need to pay more attention to the details when photographing or learn some photoshop skills. lolz
Haha - there are so many things you could do with photoshop.. I need to learn some skills too! Teeheehee
ReplyDeleteHey Lena! Merry Christmas doll! YSL makes awesome cosmetics. I agree, they are pricey, but they are worth it. That color looks great on you. Hope you're enjoying the holidays.

ReplyDeletefollowed back. ;)
That looks awesome! Definitely want to try this product!
ReplyDeletehi Meg! :)
ReplyDeletethanks for adding me to your reading list.
LOL, I love your moral. Your witty commentary always makes me laugh, Lena. This is really pretty! I like the gloss of it. I've read mixed reviews and wasn't sure how I'd feel about them, but I did buy one of the L'oreal ones yesterday (sale and a coupon, it was hard to resist) and I quite liked it.
ReplyDeletelolz..
ReplyDeletei am surprised to see these unpleasant(?) details everytime i take pictures for blogging. i thought i smoothed out my hair! ;p
i am glad to hear you like the L'Oreal one. now i am more excited! :)
that is so pretty. I swear you can wear anything without looking bad. Looking forward to the l'oreal review :D
ReplyDeleteI hope your weekend is going great
artofmie.blogspot.com
awww thank you, Mie! you're very sweet. ;)
ReplyDeletei am very excited about the L'Oreal one. the packaging is not as pretty for sure but the price point is awesome if they are really close!
I haven't tried any of these, but I really think it's about time! I don't think the L'Oreal ones are already here, but I can't wait to hear what you think!
ReplyDeleteit is supposed to be the 2013 spring release but i was able to find it online. lucky me!
ReplyDeletei will do a comparison post soon. ;)
I have one of this in #15 ;D
ReplyDeleteI love it and def think it's worth the price.. What I also like is the scent, it smells like Baileys.lol
and the L'Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Shine Stain is almost an exact dupe to YSL glossy stain.. I don't own any of the L'Oreal one, but I have tried 2 of them from my friend and barely noticed any difference.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but they do belong to the same company, don't they?
you're right!
ReplyDeletel'oreal is the parent company of YSL. in this case i can't really complain like i did for essie...lolz
now i am more excited to try the l'oreal one. it is on the way..eeeee!!
Oh I love lip stains. Which reminds me - I need to get a new one soon. I might try this one out this time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review.

PrettyGloss - makeup, beauty & a lil gibberish
my pleasure, Sarah!
ReplyDeletei love this moisturizing every so slightly sticky texture as well. not drying at all. ;)
I must say YSL has the most elegant packaging of a lippie ever!! The shade looks really pretty and it looks nice on you ^_~
ReplyDeletei agree! and this is one of the less pretty ones from YSL. lolz
ReplyDeletethanks for your compliment, Janet! :)
So pretty<3 Looks so sexy & vampy~

thank you, EV! :D
ReplyDeleteI normally don't like lip colours like this but this is a beautiful plum/wine shade! The stain left behind looks quite nice! The fuzzy applicator looks like it would feel nice on the lips too. I haven't tried anything from the YSL range before unfortunately!
ReplyDeletehttp://reveriebelle.blogspot.com.au
once blotted it is not overbearing at all!
ReplyDeletegood thing is that you can go for a full femme fatal look as well if you want. lol
i am rediscovering the YSL range lately. i think they are very nice (except for the price ;-/)
I haven't tried these, but I'm really interested to hear if the L'Oreal is a dupe. The color looks beautiful on you!
ReplyDeletei am pretty sure the l'oreal one is a good dupe. even the applicator looks identical!
ReplyDeletei will let you know.
thank you, Catherine! :)
This is gorgeous. I have still not tried these, but I will definitely be trying the Loreal versions when I can get my hands on them!
ReplyDeletex
i will do a comparison post as soon as mine arrives. it is on the way! :)
ReplyDeletethat is an interesting applicator!! it's so .. fuzzy haha
ReplyDeleteit is very nice Movie Star color :)
aww thanks!
ReplyDeletefor some reason, deep berry purple shades make me feel more glamorous than reds.
i thought the applicator was funny at first but it works very nicely. ;)
Oooh! This is one stunning shade - I'm going to check it out for myself :)
ReplyDeletethanks Vita!
ReplyDeletethis is a lovely lippie for sure. ;)
Agh, I've been lemming on the glossy stains for a while too! This is a great vampy shade on you, and by how it applies, it seems like there's a lot of product to last you a long time!
ReplyDelete-Monica @ Lemonpetit
thank you, Monica!
ReplyDeletesome say this fades away and leaves ring around but i did not experience that.
i did not even bring this out with me that night. i just needed to apply the sheer lipstick over a couple times and that was it! :D
This is beautiful! I don't think i'd ever buy one though because of the price tag. I'll definitely pick up the L'oreal version though!
ReplyDeleteeverybody is saying that the l'oreal one is almost identical.
ReplyDeletei will confirm once i try mine soon! :)
I love YSL glossy stains! I thought this shade would be a lot darker and more purple from the tube, but it actually wears really nicely and is not too overbearing. It suits you really well Lena! :)
ReplyDeletei think the purple comes out more when blotted. very subtle and vampy i love it so much.
ReplyDeletethank you, Stacey! :)
This looks (sorry to be weird) yummy! A bit like jam. Glamorous jam for lips :)
ReplyDeletehaha not weird at all!
ReplyDeleteyou're right. the consistency does remind me of jam a bit. ;)
This lip stain looks wonderful. I love this colour, specially in winter!
ReplyDeletehttp://mymakeupcompulsion.blogspot.com.es/
i agree! i love wearing purple/berries in winter time.
ReplyDeletei feel much comfortable wearing them than reds for some reason. ;)
Wow! This color is beautiful!!
