Review - e.l.f. Studio High Definition Powder

When I first heard about this loose powder, I had a feeling this would be similar to my holy grail Chacott finishing powder in translucent.
I am happily reporting to you that e.l.f Studio HD powder comes very very close at much lower cost! :D

clean matte case

This is actually a twist-off lid.
Don't be like me trying to pull it upward. lol

the white powder inside
(Official name of the color is "Clear")

(To briefly describe Chacott powder for those who might be curious, it is made by Chacott, a manufacturer for classic ballet supplies, and it has been ranked No.1 in Cosme Japan. This powder comes in various colors and it is very much sweat proof while providing excellent finish.
I went through at least a couple gigantic 170g tubs of this in translucent color. ^-^)

Ok, back to e.l.f. HD powder..

from e.l.f. website
translucent, versatile loose powder that creates a flawless, "soft focus" effect to the skin. Masks fine lines and imperfections for a glowing radiant complexion. This incredibly soft and invisible powder is ideal for everyday wear, either alone or over your favorite foundation

Ingredients
Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Silica

My thoughts
*likes*
It is extremely affordable (especially with their occasional sales) and easy to find.
The translucent (clear) color works for me. It does not alter my foundation color nor leaves white cast on me.
It gives really nice flawless finish. My skin definitely looks better with this. The effect is quite similar to Chacott powder.
As you see from the ingredient list, this is not a talc based powder. It does not feel tight on my skin.
This powder controls oil pretty well.

*dislikes*
(To tell you the truth, I don't have anything against this powder personally, so this would be more like possible concerns.)
It comes in only one color. If you have darker skin or use it without foundation, it could leave some white cast.
Coverage is close to none although it is not designed for that.
This powder is silicone based. Be aware of this if you tend to break out from products with silicones.

I still like Chacott powder a little better but I see myself repurchasing this powder in the future because of the convenience and affordability. :)

  5. I'm really skeptical about elf products now >.< A lot of items I bought were defective, extremely low quality, or not true to their online color ): I definitely want to try this though!

  6. i understand what you are saying! i actually only like 2(!) products from their basic line. (eyeshadow brush & 4 pan eyeshadow empty case)
their studio line is so much better quality, though. i am impressed with the powder blushes and the compact powder. i will review on them soon. ;)

  7. Hmm I actually bought a lot from the studio line that I didn't like. The loose powder eyeshadows weren't that great. The matte one was not as opaque as I would like it to be ): I like elf's pressed eyeshadows though.

  14. Nice review!! I actually saw this on the counter...but kinda backs me off as the powder comes in white..I've seen people applying "white" powder..and I don't quite like the outcome of any "white" powder...But its really nice that it didn't create white cast on you, maybe I could give this a try then..Thanks for sharing..=)

  15. thanks. ;)
i believe this white color works better for me than those pinkish beige colored powder claimed to be "translucent".
this powder is very nice to use in winter time. it isn't very drying but still mattifying. ;)
